Reversed into a boulder - who's liable
Hello
Yesterday I went to pick up a parcel from the post office depot.
It's an absolute nightmare to park around there.
Basically I started driving between some parked cars around a corner, then had to reverse back to let a car out (only room for one)
Problem is, due to the awkwardness of how people were packed I revered into a boulder situated on a grass verge
The boulder was about a foot in height and had been placed on top of the curb so I could not see it
I suspect they put it there to stop people parking on the grass
I really don’t think they should be allowed to do this and I doubt I’m the first person this has happened to
Am I liable when somebody puts an obstruction in place that is not clearly visible?
Damian.

Probably not what you want to hear but I think you should accept your mistake and get on with it. This claiming for everything is getting stupid now.0

Be careful here, because if you should persue this and you have caused damage to the boulder, you could find that you are liable for its repair or reinstatement.0

I'd also avoid driving in any rural areas if you have trouble seeing boulders on grass verges0

Take responsibility for your mistake.Happy chappy0

The IAM test fails anyone who so much as touches the kerb when "turning in the road". If I remember correctly, I believe this is the case for the initial driving test too. I know this isn't what you want to hear and I know it's frustrating having damage done to your car but the fact is if you'd noticed the boulder through proper observation, you wouldn't have hit it.
On a positive note, if you're insured with More Than, you could be in the same situation as the nice chap in their advert (he reverses into a bollard) in which case it won't affect your NCD, assuming you have NCD in the first placelet's not talk about his dog releasing the handbrake then skilfully steering the vehicle into their driveway... :rotfl:

I dont like the 18" high nigh on invisible black bollards that protect the pedestrian walkway at our local sainsburys. They lurk below the back window and hide from your mirrors. They even have a kind of a rim around the top to guarantee damage.
I put a bit of a dent in the back door of my first company van on one of those, since then I have learned to take care in reverse!

sorry, but the answer to your question is you and only you.0

I got a nice crease in my bumper too, that was a 2 foot steel post that the reversing sensors missed on Plymouth Barbican. I bent it over at 45 degrees.
My fault, I pay....NO to pasty tax We won!!!! Just shows that people power works! Don't be apathetic to your cause!0 -
Yep, your fault. You should be aware of what's around you. Next people will be moaning because trees aren't fitted with flashing beacons!!0

I'm sorry, I don't apologise. That's just the way I am. Homer (Simpson)0
