I rarely see that tbh
99% of thetime it is the car behind paying no attention. First car pulls over safely, leaving plenty of room for other behind. Car behind doesn't think "that's odd, he's just pulled over and stopped in a really odd place for no apparent reason and i can hear sirens around, perhaps an emergency vehicle is approaching"...He instead thinks "that guy has stopped for no reason. I know, i'll just overtake him without checking my mirrors and pull out right in front of an emergency vehicle, then panic and nearly crash into the pavement trying to make up for my lack of sight, hearing and common sense":eek:0 -

Well at least I try to do everything I can to make way for you guys, a few points on my clean licence wouldn't bother me if I'd helped save someones life:)I like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.
Will the grammar and spelling police respect I do make grammatical errors, and have carp spelling, no need to remind me.;)
Always expect the unexpected:eek:and then you won't be dissapointed0 -
A tricky one - must admit the video was very informative about not putting yourself in a law breaking situation.
However.. I live not far from a major A&E hospital, and am quite often driving on the route the ambulance would take. Only once have I gone through a red light to let an ambulance pass, the oncoming traffic (on green) had seen the situation, come to a halt and flashed me through (there were no overtaking motorcycles either)...and no cameras on the lights.
Surely if you are picked up going through a red light, and try to justify your actions because of the blues and twos up your backside, the emergency vehicle would also have been flashed. Can't these ticket issuers look at the situation for say 30 seconds around the time of the "offence"?
Whilst I'm on my high horse, has anyone noticed the increase in records that have siren sounds in the songtrack, really offputting when driving.0 -

Of course you can ask the magistrates to consider special reasons why they should not fine you or endorse your licence. However, they don't have to do to. Crossing the line on a red light is an absolute offence. I'd prefer not to risk a quarter of my driving licence.0 -
You are correct sarahg1969, but until I had read this thread, my natural instinct would be to help the emergency services get through (so long as safe).
Not forgetting that a lot of emergency vehicles have forward facing cameras, they can see the reg no's of the chaps that safely got out of the way to assist an emergency vehicle, albeit breaking the highway code. This should be provided to the traffic camera prosecuting peeps.
Perhaps a bit too joined up and common sensicle for this day and age, eh?:(

No it isn't. Why don't you read what I wrote as opposed to what you think I wrote or wanted to read. People behaving unpredictably is exactly what causes them and other road users problems. Did I say impede? No I did not. I said let them find their way round you.
Don't be childish.
Wrong wrong wrong,- read the post below yours from an emergency services driver.
Cheers
Ok,
I did read what you said and I disagree.
It is our job to get out of the way of emergency vehicles. Stop dead in front of them?, freeze in the road?, not cross a double white to get out of the way?, comeone. We should make it as simple as possible to "let them find their way around".
Making them find a way round when it's possible to drive in a manor that lets them through is an impedence.
Keep it polite chap, don't know where you get the childish point from but sitting in traffic and expecting a fire engine to get through a car gap would be my description or childish..
Ask any emergency vehicle driver as to what they want the public to do and the answer is always the same, "just don't get in the way"
We obviousley disagree, no problem, you do it your wayI like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.

I think there's a big difference between 'getting out of the way' and breaking the law.
You can't just say it's a choice of only 2 things: Doing anything to get out of their way, or sit there and refuse to budge. Under normal circumstances you can pull over, slow down, even in traffic you can edge to one side.
The drivers want you to indicate and ideally see what everyone else is doing to make a road for them, and see what the service is doing as you may be making a road going the wrong way!
None of this includes breaking the law though, as soon as you cross a solid white line, break the speed limit, go through a red light, any of these types of things you've gone beyond what is required by the service trying to get through.Trev. Having an out-of-money experience!
C'MON! Let's get this debt sorted!!0 -

Would you break the law to save a life?, I would.:AI like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.
