Brighthouse family harassment

But they also state......and, in some cases, have contacted a member of family that you have not named.
Although, for me reading it, I am unclear whether or not this is actually the case with the OP or just hearsay“That old law about 'an eye for an eye' leaves everybody blind. The time is always right to do the right thing.”0 -
They may have contacted them to find out if they knew different contact details for the OP if for example they weren't replying to e-mails or phone messages.
They may also have contacted them to ask them to pass on a message.
If the people in question were contacted and were named on the contract, there may have been something in that contract stating that the OP gave permission for them to be contacted.
Without knowing who was contacted, why they were contacted, and what exactly was discussed, it is all guesswork.0 -
When signing up with Brighthouse you have to provide 5 names and contact details and its clear in the contract that they will contact these people if you miss a payment. While I agree the interest is extortionate its also very clear before you sign the contract. And £3 for a charge is actually very cheap considering my visa card is £12, and bank charges are double that at least!
I bought a tv from them when it was Crazy Georges, when I was 18,young and very stupid. They are rip off merchants and in my opinion there is nothing so essential that I would ever resort to these sharks again! Things like sofas, beds, fridges are not essential, and I would rather buy second hand, get from freecycle and make do with crap than be ripped off by these again!
What I would suggest (if they still do it) is make sure you have paid a week or so extra so that if ever you miss a payment again they can take it from this rather have a missed payment!Ideas, help and advice always welcome, judgements and assumptions are not!!:happyhearMarrying my Mr Perfect 20130 -
The OP shops at Brighthouse and misses payments, that to me indicates, that the original post, contains an extremely shortened one sided version of events.0

My ex partner had a few things from brighthouse, i was lucky enough to be one of the contact phone numbers, basically from memory when you go in and sign up for the credit agreement they require 4/5 contact details for other people, close relatives etc, if you miss a payment and they can't contact you directly they contact every single one of them to track you down to get payment, i think it sort of works on them expecting the relatives to put pressure on you to contact brighthouse and make payment to stop them getting harrassed.
They also refuse to remove your details even if you haven't given permission to be on this list of extra contacts, it was real fun when i split up with her and she stopped paying for items she had purchased when she moved away, i ended up getting my phone numbers changed to stop them ringing, brighthouse truely are bottom feeders.0 -

It doesn't matter, they had no right to ask in the first place. They are a finance company, not the police. If the people in question were contacted and were named on the contract, there may have been something in that contract stating that the OP gave permission for them to be contacted.
Again, it doesn't mater, something like that would be a breach of the The Unfair Terms in Consumer Contracts Regulations 1999 and/or Consumer Protection from Unfair Trading Regulations as well as possibly the Comsumer Credit ActThe greater danger, for most of us, lies not in setting our aim too high and falling short; but in setting our aim too low and achieving our mark0 -

What an despicable way to trade. The greater danger, for most of us, lies not in setting our aim too high and falling short; but in setting our aim too low and achieving our mark0 -

But you give up that protection when you sign up.
Basically they can do as they please, and they know people will agree to it because they are desperate. Without 5 contacts you are not allowed to enter into the contract with them, and they ask you to make sure these people are happy to be contacted. When I was with them, and from what of heard of others peoples experiences they make all of these terms clear when your signing up. If you want to take the risk and have your friends/family know your financial business for the sake of a 42" plasma,or a corner suite then thats what you agree to!!Ideas, help and advice always welcome, judgements and assumptions are not!!:happyhearMarrying my Mr Perfect 20130
