Sudden rise in corned beef prices

  • Which is a bit worrying when the food i'm talking about is turkey wings, turkey necks, lamb ribs, chicken carcasses, minced offal and minced bones etc.

What do you think goes into products like the supermarket own brand Value sausages?, and from a couple of years ago, there was this "The 2p sausage: But what's in the bargain banger?"
When you see the extremely low wholesale prices charges for some burgers, you know that there is no way that they contain anything but crap.

It's been like this for ages! I love corned beef but I haven't had it in over a year now, I wont pay silly prices for it.

I've added Tuna to that list too. I was in Tesco today and they had a 4 pack of John West tuna for £6.99! They had Princes on special offer at £4 (normal price £6.99).

When did tinned tuna become so expensive, it used to be a cheap thing?

I do agree it's now very expensive but it's currently BOGOF in Tesco.

I know some families aren't in a financial position to take advantage of offers like this, but for me, it's the only way to shop nowadays.

I do have the advantage of living close to a Tesco Extra and a Co-op so I pop up on a regular basis and buy what's on offer.

I'm sure some people must wonder what I eat when my trolley has tinned tuna, fabric conditioner, toothpaste and 2 packs of vine tomatoes in it. :)

Tinned Tuna (the good stuff in spring water) is also on my list of once in a blue moon, I tend to buy it ONLY when it is on offer. Got 4 tins of tuna in spring water for £2.75 to be thats cheap.

  • My pet cat (Puss from Africa) spent the first 6 months of her life eating tinned corned beef (no cat food available where I was living at the time).
If it's now so expensive, I'm lucky that she's on proper cat food.

if i'm buying own brand value pork sausages then i'd say it doesn't contain turkey necks, turkey wings, lamb ribs, chicken carcasses etc... i'd say it contains some !!!!!! pork and a lot of none meat bulking agents

When I started shopping at Lidl, corned beef was about 40p! I though 99p was exhorbitant, never mind £1.99!

I was worried when the price of long rice shot up but it's dropped donw to about 50p now.

I've been craving tuna like mad. I only like the john west Tuna chunks in brine though, can't stand tuna in sunflower oil. Everywhere seems to have an abundance of single tins of the sunflower oil stuff, but unfortunately, the co-op, Costcutter and Asda are only selling packs of 3 tins for a minimum of £3.50. There's a little shop about a 5 minute walk away that sells the tins individually for about £1.40. It's ridiculous.
And the price of bacon has shot up too.
