Definitely give it a charity that means something to you - you'll feel better for it! x0

I can see how this would happen - I can see how I would potentially just open all the mail that comes through without thinking (not at the moment though as I just got a new house and so most of the mail is for the lady who owned the house before me)
I think I would do something nice with the money to ease my conscience like give it to charity, but I would keep it a few weeks in case the person who it belongs to comes knocking to ask for itProud meowmy of four fuzzy cats

I'd give it to charity myself.0

You would think that whoever had sent it would ask little Gerrald if he got his birthday card and when it all comes out and turns out that it was sent to an old address then someone might enquire to see if you have it. So it's up to you really.0

could have been a welcome to your new home card.0 -
Every year I get a Christmas card for somebody who doesn't live at my address - Jackie somebody-or-other. I know it isn't the previous owner, but I have no way of sending it on because I don't know who should get it. I don't lose any sleep over it.
I also once got sent quite a few large bouquets of flowers for somebody who didn't live here - somebody who had recently had a baby (strangely enough, I had also recently had a baby too, but my own bouquets were addressed correctly). All I could do was to ask the local health-visitors if they recognised the name. Nobody did, so I put the flowers on my windowsill.
You can't return the money, so either spend it or give it to charity.0 -
TBH, I always check the name on the front.....I don't open DH's or DS2's post and they don't open mine....and every now & then we get mail for DH's ex of over 10 years ago which gets sent back saying "not known".
If it was opened in error, I would retain the card, donate the cash to charity & get a receipt which I would keep with the card for 12 months. If nobody contacted us in that year I would bin the card & receipt.0
