  • I would get in touch with Esso Head Office and the police, this is obviously a scam

is this really necessary? it was nothing to do with 'the field of selling fuel'. I was simply trying to establish if it was a current employee of the company, in which case should be reported to a site manager, or someone impersonating an employee in which case others should heed warning.
In either case theres no need for such rudeness, get yourself a life off the computer and then maybe youll see life is too short!

This whole thread appears to have been turned into an opportunity for people to have a pop at others.

Is it just me seeing the OP posting about an odd occurrence that appears to be a scam, yet others have condemned them as an idiot for being taken in and being a substance abuser. If I have missed where the OP did actually buy anything from this door to door salesperson, please let me know.

I have no reason to disbelieve either poster of post 13 or OP.

    I don't get your point.

i believe post 13 than the OP especially after his thread last night about being locked in the toilets at tesco

i was trying to emphasise that maybe theres more to the story than meets the eye

Just had someone at my door from Esso selling petrol. Unleaded for 140.9p for a liter! Why would I pay extra to have it on my door when I could put it straight in my car for less?
2 questions...were they wearing a uniform? and what did it look like?

i worked for Esso for 4 years up to last year and this certainly does not sound anything like the company i worked for

Is it not possible for someone to knock on someone's door, say 'I work for Esso, can I interest you in some fuel?'

Clearly it sounds dodgy if it happened, it seems very unlikely to be someone really from Esso, so why can only post 13 or 1 be true?

However try as I might, I cannot make:

Just had a genuine Esso petrol salesman at my door. Unleaded for just 140.9p for a litre! What a bargain, I didn't have to go to the petrol station to get some fuel so it's worth the extra cost. Got the car filled up and I've got plenty more to sniff and told him I'll have more next week. :money:

I am genuinely confused by all those that can.

Sorry but as a newbie I have to disagree. It is perfectly possible for someone to knock on someone's door, and say 'I work for Esso, can I interest you in some fuel?'

The fact that, presumably, they have still got the handcuff marks on their wrists or have cut their way out of a strait jacket is neither here nor there. It's still possible even though their offer is complete carp of course.

However, where I'm sitting 140p a litre doesn't sound too bad. A 5 mile run down the road would see me pay 142.9p so having it delivered at that price sounds like a bit of a bargain except that I'd want a tank full for the small genny. It would probably take him a while to get that much together and the petrol breath might give the game away.

Please don't violently agree with me, I think you're making the same point I was. :rotfl:
