I notice the OP spells "litre" the American way of "liter" (which my Firefox 4 spell check flags as an error when I type it here).

140p per litre is, what, about £6 a gallon?

2 questions...were they wearing a uniform? and what did it look like?

i worked for Esso for 4 years up to last year and this certainly does not sound anything like the company i worked for

i'm not 100% satisfied that anyone needs any experience in the field of selling fuel to see this door to door petrol salesman was genuinely from esso
    helpful tips
    it's spelt d-e-f-i-n-i-t-e-l-y
there - 'in or at that place'
    their - 'owned by them'
    they're - 'they are'
it's bought not brought (i just bought my chicken a suit from that new shop for £6.34)
  • Ah, the Esso Blue Dealer is still alive and well plus now selling petroleum door to door! Those old enough should remember the Esso Blue Dealer.

Wouldn't mind betting that you would have had a tank full of coloured water.

I would mind betting the OP had drank a tank full before posting ;)

Crikey - I'm older than I thought.... But so many good adverts in those days... :rotfl:

You wouldn’t buy a teapot with out a spout, so why buy a toaster without a plug?! Get yourself the only complete toaster — with a fitted safety plug and deeper, wider slot to take thick and thin bread. Morphy Richards — the one with the plug on!

The sad demise of the happy days when people had to fit their own plugs - or "double wire" two appliances into one plug... :rotfl:

is this really necessary? it was nothing to do with 'the field of selling fuel'. I was simply trying to establish if it was a current employee of the company, in which case should be reported to a site manager, or someone impersonating an employee in which case others should heed warning.
In either case theres no need for such rudeness, get yourself a life off the computer and then maybe youll see life is too short!

Just had someone at my door from Esso selling petrol. Unleaded for 140.9p for a liter! Why would I pay extra to have it on my door when I could put it straight in my car for less?

Simple question - why have you been let out?
