Hi All
Just been on holiday to Ibiza. Will keep this brief. Prior to departure we ordered (me and my partner), a disabled bathroom to be an essential on our holiday, 5 weeks later this was confirmed.
Upon arrival we found that the shower in our room was the usual, taps and overhead shower, no walk in disabled shower as requested.
Management offered us an alternative hotel and a hire car, however neither of us could drive and we picked this particular resort for its quietness and pace of life. Management then offered us free drinks with our meals.
This was all appreciated but we spent a week worrying about slipping in the bath, my partner having to help me in and out, and one reason i paid extra for a disabled access shower was from a personal dignity point of view.
Do you think I am entitled to a partial refund perhaps ? Jet2 are impossible to reach unless I spent a fortune via the premium rate line. Neither me nor my partner made a great fuss on holiday although she was in tears over this and I was frustrated at being unable to help.
Any offers of advice would be appreciated.

was the disabled bathroom CONFIRMED on the booking invoice (or in writing), or was it just a request?
If it was confirmed as part of the package then you have full right to request compensation. You need to put a letter to the company stating your grievances, and allow them time to respond.
However, if it was simply a 'request', then these are exactly what it sounds like - just a request with no gaurantee that you will get what you have requested. In this case, i personally can't see you getting anything back.
When speaking with the hotel, did you find out if the hotel had the facilities you required (ie did it have rooms that were suitable for your needs, albeit already occupied)?
Finally, did you try contact either Jet2 or their appointed representatives whilst on holiday to try remedy the matter?

What would you expect in compensation?? With respect the management tried there damned best to offer you another hotel (which was unaccepable due to circumstances agreed) then free drinks which was accepted and although difficult and personal dignity compromised Im sure you would have said if you injured yourself or been unable to enjoy your holiday because of this To "spend a week worrying about slipping in a shower" im not doubting you but i think a little far fetched with the worry. Write them a strong letter about they never delivered what you requested but only if the whole of the hotel didnt have disabled showers in any rooms you may have a small case to claim compo from AThe T/O or the Hotel if it says it has and hasnt. good luck.
Edit ;;;;;and it all has to be done in writing , hard as nails on the internet . wimp in the real world :cool:0 -
Thank you Mr Greenface.
With respect too, the 'free drinks' was one drink per person at evening meal.
I apologise if I appear 'green' myself, but this was the first time either me or my partner had been away without parents or carers and perhaps we should have stamped our feet and demanded our rights, but maybe we were naive and didnt feel confident enough to make a 'fuss'.
It was only on our return one or two people suggested we may have some recourse.
No the Hotel supposedly had one room with a disabled, wide access shower, this was allocated wrongly before our arrival.
Yes earlier replier, we do have confirmation through the local travel agent that the room booked (at an increased premium) had a disabled shower.0 -
how did you know i was a fella ? I am sorry you think my post is blunt but its true and your last two sentences is related to my last two . You have a case a small one and depending what you ask for and how you ask (and how much you paid) you MAY get some sort of voucher or refund from T/O . You dont need to "make a fuss". just make people aware you are struggling to enjoy your holiday and it could be made much better by ............../ It wont be easy though and i cannot expect too much in compo IMO but good luck:cool: hard as nails on the internet . wimp in the real world :cool:0

Maybe this gave it awayNeither me nor my partner made a great fuss on holiday although she was in tears over this
But back to the point, if you booked via a travel agent which you mentioned above then I believe your claim should be against them, they then sort this out with Jet2 if the hotel was booked by Jet2 and not a "package" put together by the travel agent with Jet2 as the airline.
However if it was a requested option then I dont think you will get anywhere as they are requested rather than guaranteed.Totally Debt Free & Mortgage Free Semi retired and happy0 -

Thats not my post thats Nigels ?? But i am a bloke BTW
back to the point
A request doesnt have to be honoured but if you can make them confirm you only booked that holiday with them because they "promised " you a disabled bathroom and you lost a significant time of your holiday by not having what they "promised" then you may claim against them although im still not too sure how much you would want to claim back as a strong letter may get a voucher off your next hoiday £100 poss. Again Good luck:cool: hard as nails on the internet . wimp in the real world :cool:0
