I'm rather concerned that you have come home to a messed up bathroom (albeit with mended shower) and didn't know it was going to happen.
Whilst you've got to be glad your LL has got the problem fixed (hopefully) you'd hope at the very least you'd get a call saying they were going to go in and do the work - emergency etc.
The LL should be giving you notice that he/she will be needing access - there are plenty of threads on here about LL that decide they can waltz in and out whenever they feel like it. I appreicate it was classed as a plumbing emergency but the rules should still be followed.
I'd suggest you have a word with the LA about access rights by the LL!
yes although it has to be said the women at the LA was just as unhelpful and exteremly rude as someone on here suggested i intend to not deal with her in future! yes very annoyed i had no phonecall to say when someone was going there, or that anyone was at all and no letter or call to say they had fixed the problem. there was bubble wrap on the floor my bin was moved there was a towel on the floor and (and i know it sounds a bit stupid) they had used a whole toilet roll - i am assuming to clear up any seal! And to go without a shower for a few days i do agree is not on as some people do think!0 -
Of course you should stop showering when you become aware of a problem. Would you continue to drive a car with a flat tyre? No, you stop and get it fixed. If no other bathing facilities were available in the property, then the problem should be attended to as a matter of urgency, & it seems it was.
Geeze, it isn't her problem !!!!!!. It's down to the landlord to get round and fix it asap. She should not go without the use of a vital utility over someone else's issue. And your comparison to a car tyre just doesn't really fit. It might have fit if the shower was spewing molten lava each time you used it - but that isn't the case.
In response to your comments of
"so owner occupiers never have problems with damp in their bathrooms?"
1. I did not claim that owner occupiers live in a wonderful damp free world
2. So if a property is a business to you - not a roof over your head - are you going to do any work or maintenance on the cheap (most commercially sensible), or spend more money and time on doing a high quality repair (not commercially sensible)?
"Do you think BTL scum have the ability to fit anything themselves. Especially with the clawed hands, and lack of thumbs"
This is exactly the problem I'm talking about. They simply don't have these skills, yet huge numbers of them think they do and bodge repairs and maintenance in their properties. Anecdotally, I've had this happen to myself, and have seen it happen to plenty of friends that rent.0
