It's a pity that you weren't more explicit in the first place, isn't it? Had I gone bankrupt, I would have kept my mouth shut. Had my spouse been the cause of a bankruptcy, I would have kept my mouth shut.

Judgemental much?....Just because you might do something in a particular way doesn't mean it's the right way to do it!!

    Hello - ex-bankrupt here too.

No problems with getting utilities at any point pre-BR, BR or so far, post-BR. Best deals, no Prepay meters, no deposits. Easy job. And you don't need to tell them you are BR either.

Glad you got a great deal.

If they did a credit check I doubt they will allow anyone to remain in debt without first asking for a desposit, obviously depends on which company

Each supplier is different to different customers I guess. I have changed supplier 4 times since my BR; twice in the BR year. Its loud and clear on my credit files, but there has never been a problem with moving, even with debts on 2 of them (very small debts though) that I re-paid at a later date.

You'll never know until you pick up the phone on this one!

I hate to bear bad news, but expect the supplier round shortly with a pair of PPMs, and wave goodbye to any deal you arranged.

Did you inform them you are a registered bankrupt?
Do you really expect to continue to get credit as a recently declared bankrupt?

im with the same supplier so they know im a declared BR and had no problems with it at all. offered me a PPM which i said no to and the other option was DD payment which i acepted.

this was arranged through the insolvency department.

exactly! dont know till you try!

only reason i was in debt was coz of a faulty central heating system the council never reimbursed me fully for and i simply couldnt catch up especialy after the seriously harsh winter we just had.

i was actually in credit with my electricity payments when i declared BR.

annoys me so much in this climate how judgemental people still are over BRs. all it takes is one silly judgement from the owners of their employers and they can end up in our situation then i bet they wont be so quick to throw stones!

Looks like the Horsham CAB have got it all wrong then?
What about Electricity and Gas arrears? Will I be cut off? Any money owed to the Gas and Electricity companies must be included in your bankruptcy. This means that any money outstanding between your last quarterly bill and the date of your bankruptcy will be included. By law the fuel companies cannot cut off your supply because of money owed to them before the date of your bankruptcy, so your fuel will not be disconnected as a result of bankruptcy. However, the Gas and Electricity companies do not normally allow undischarged bankrupts to have quarterly accounts. So you must:

    (a) register for a new supply for each service (b) arrange to have a pre-payment meter installed.

All gas or electricity used after the date of bankruptcy is your responsibility.

And presumably SSE are unique in their terms and that is one supplier you haven't used.

6.2 If you don’t give the necessary notice under clause 6.1
you’ll remain liable for all monies due under this Agreement
    until the date of termination.
    (a) We may end this Agreement (in whole or in part) by
    written notice if:
    (i) you’re in material breach of this Agreement; or
(ii) we’ve been unable to install a prepayment meter and
you haven’t paid a security deposit when requested; or
(iii) we give you 28 days’ notice of our intention to
    terminate this Agreement; or
(iv) we’ve good reason to believe that information you’ve
given us is false or misleading; or
    (v) you’re the subject of insolvency or bankruptcy proceedings.

Just a quick glance at the Horsham CAB link shows it to be hopelessly inaccurate.

"How much will it cost?" is years out of date.

"How long will I be an undischarged bankrupt?" is also completely wrong.

    I didn't bother reading further.
