Do I have a right to compensation

Hi all,
I bought a Smeg oven from Boots in October. On sunday, while cooking the fathers day meal (nice!), the inside glass smashed.
I spoke to Boots and they organised a Smeg engineer to come over on Tuesday. He said that its most likely to be a manufacturing fault - an air bubble in the glass that expanded. He took the details of the oven and said a replacement would take approx 1 week and he would call to arrange to fit a new one.
This morning, I get a letter from Smeg saying its out of stock and they would need to order a new one. No time of how long this will take.
So, now I have been left with no oven for god knows how long, and a 5 year old whos going to have to live on microwave meals!!
As its a manufacturing fault, am I within my rights to ask for compensation? And if so, is that from Boots or Smeg?

Your only problem seems to be "a 5 year old whos going to have to live on microwave meals".
Have you got a hob?
How will compensation help?
Why not ask Smeg how long you will have to wait?
Of course you have the right to ask for compensation.
They in turn have the right to refuse.0 -
Can you still ue the hob or hob to cook food on, why do you have to use the m/wave0

Anyway, surely its compensation for either replacement food or food that cannot be used?0 -
Most probably! No harm in asking though
Their CS might not be as smart as you
One important thing to remember is that when you get to the end of this sentence, you'll realise it's just my sig.0 -

Why cant she cook it? Why cant she keep it in the freezer until the oven is fixed then use it later? Why will she have to replace it?one of the famous 50 -

I think the short answer is "yes" - from Boots. I would suggest that you make sure that they are fully aware of the situation and invite them to provide you (at their cost) with a loan oven or, alternatively, to confirm that they will meet the reasonable costs which you incur as a result.
These may include any additional costs including, if reasonable, costs of eating out.0 -
In our kitchen we have a fully intact, fully functioning oven and yet all my food still gets cooked in the microwave0

My oven has been missing it's glass door for more than 3 years due to a broken hinge. The oven still works without it, maybe a bit less efficient but it works.0

Compensation is primarily to recompense you for a financial loss. I'm not sure how you've suffered financially because of this... Of course, you can also get compensation for distress but if being without an oven for a short while distresses you to the point you need financially recompensing, then it might we worth spending any compo you get on some therapy to toughen you up!"Growth for growth's sake is the ideology of the cancer cell" - Edward Abbey.0
