^this gets decent enough reviews. Avast has a nice feature too -- but only in paid-for version.

If you want complete peace of mind and you have Windows 7 install Windows XP Mode and use that as your main interface to browse the web etc. If you do get infected you delete the file from your PC restart XP Mode and it creates a new file without affecting the running of your computer.

    Excellent tutorial here http://www.sandboxie.com/index.php?GettingStarted
The best way is to install Sandboxie and run through the tutorial. The benefits should become obvious as you go along.
It is free indefinitely, but only the basic features remain available after 30 days. It's still worth having though imho.
  • Another vote for Sandboxie here.

Thanks for that. Had a read through the tutorial (I'm at work atm) and it seems easy enough to use.
Daft question, but it looks like you have to start the sandbox mode first and then open your web browser. Is it possible to have the browser open in sandbox mode automatically (i.e. when you click on the normal icon)?

After insatall you should have a desktop icon to launch your default browser in a sandbox, so in answer to your question, yes you can open in sandbox mode automatically.

Yes it is, look on the Sandboxie site for "forcing" a programme to run sandboxed.
That ability disappears after 30 days with the free version though. It's around £30 for a lifetime license to keep all the bells and whistles.
I thought it was worth it. It's the only software I have ever paid for.

A full version alternative to Sandboxie that has been made free is BufferZone Pro:

Can look on Wilderssecurity for opinions.

Thanks guys. Looks like I need to do some more investigating before I make a final decision.
