Hello everyone, sorry I haven't posted for awhile but I was away for awhile. I had to raid my pot a couple of weeks ago but at least it was better than going overdrawn. Will start again from now but not sure how much I'll get.

I was wondering if you could give me a target of £20 for christmas? Pathetic amount but I can only afford to put 1 and 2p coins in when I have them. I'm number 1011 I thinkSavings £8,865.22 £/15,000 Aiming to save enough for a house deposit.0

I am sorry but this really is false economy. Logically you will have to take extra money out of the bank for your daily needs to account for the money that you put in this sealed pot.
Why not use the spare change that you do gather by inserting in the self service tills in your supermarket?
My object is to have as little change as possible in my pockets (not to mention a sealed pot). That way I know I have not drawn out excess notes from the 'hole in the wall'.
Think about it.
By all means cut down on your expenditure if you do find it hard to save.
Just think about the logistics and mechanics of your spending habits.
If necessary open up a savings account with your bank and transfer how much you need to save each month into your savings account. At least you will be earning interest (however little). You will be earning zero interest in a sealed pot.
I am not dissuading you from saving. On the contrary I am encouraging you to save in a logical and efficient manner by thinking about your spending habits.
Good luck!0 -
I'm back albeit with my tail between my legs. I raided my sealed pot very early in the year because I overspent one month and I haven't got back on track since
I'm going to start again despite the fact that I have missed the best part of half a year. There are 144 days till 1 December and I am sure I can save something between now and then although not the £500.00 I had in mind. It would be easy to continue saving nothing and simply not bother but come 1 December, I know I will be cross with myself so even if I can save £50 then I will be more than happy.
I have been saving 5p coins in my green elephant the last few weeks so they won't go in my sealed pot, nor will 1p and 2p coins but all other coins apart from £2 coins (saving these in a teramundi/sealed coffee pot) will go in my sealed pot and since I'm coming back to the challenge so late in the year then for the minute, I'm going to save in my coin counter pot to help keep myself motivated. current total (week 1) is £10.61.
Plan is to raid my purse/my OH's wallet every sunday evening and nab all coins I can :rotfl: Any roadkill to go in the pot too as is any bus fares saved because I walk or I use my pass (I catch two buses home from work and one bus I have to pay for unless I wait for an age for a bus where I can use my pass). Will be back to report my total next week :T oh and when I get back to sw target and don't have to pay, my weekly subs can go in the sealed pot too :j0 -

Of course you can join us, nataz. A warm welcome aboard and have fun saving.
You'll find your number at the bottom of the list on post 3 of page 1. Please read through the 1st post as it'll let you know exactly how the challenge works. NB. Please pop your number on your sig, it helps so very much. NB. Pots are emptied on 1st December 2011, thank you.
You've still saved a good amount Elmo, and it's all about what we can afford, so no worries. The most important being in your life is your little treasure!
Well done robedha and curly, every little bit counts.
At a girl skilly!
Excellent savings Vicky! You do realise you don't need to keep account of your savings though, don't you? Most of us just put on here what we're putting in our pots then we forget about it. It's up to you though.
Hello there WER!! :hello: Don't worry about needing to delve into your savings, at least it was there for you. There's no contest in what we each save by Christmas, some can quite easily save more than others, that's the way life goes. You do what you can!My love to Kas please.
Good to see you loveGSDs! Well done on keeping hard at saving.
I've put your target on for you Willow, and any and all savings is never a pathetic amount; we're all individuals and even I'm not able to save anywhere near 1/2 as much as most here do - but it's my savings that count for me!!Battle on Willow!

Sorry baldeagle09, but I think you'll find there are 1375 folk here who would disagree with you. We only save what we can, and most of that savings is from change after shopping....that would normally get spent IF we didn't save it. Come back at the end of November/early December and witness the fever pitch here where folk are so overjoyed at all they've saved. Some people here have never saved before and it's fantastic to see the delight with all they're able to save! This is addictive and is how we make ourselves so very happy. If you want to join, please just ask!Flat_Eric wrote:It would be easy to continue saving nothing and simply not bother but come 1 December, I know I will be cross with myself so even if I can save £50 then I will be more than happy.
Hi Flat Eric, Well done you on fessing up. Needs must when the devil drives. You needed the cash and I'm pleased it came in handy, though I do hope you have some good fortune and can get yourself on your feet again soon. You're so right with your last sentence Flat Eric and there's still a fair way to go, do all you can. Best of luck to you!
oooh dear Footie, you sound shattered. I hope by now you've got your head down and are getting much needed zzzzzzz's. Potters Paradise is doing just fine and wishes you well with some weight loss tomorrow.
Take care everyone and have a great Monday. Stay safe!

I have to agree with you, I only put in a little bit of change from shopping as that's all I can afford. I know that if I didn't save it up I'd be struggling for Christmas and £20 is enough for me to buy all the presents I need to get as I have a teeny tiny familySavings £8,865.22 £/15,000 Aiming to save enough for a house deposit.0 -
