Annoying Pop Up previews

When your hovering over the thread links you get quite a large pop up consisting of a trimmed preview of the body text of the thread.
You then move the mouse off the link but the box persists and you cant read the link text.
Happens both with IE and Chrome
Im finding this very irritating.
Is there a way that these can be reduced in size to say a sentence, or removed altogether?
