Hi All
Our child is left handed. For all us right handed people its a bit difficult to imagine everything being the opposite way round- such as rulers etc.
So i was looking online and saw rulers , protractors and set squares to name just a few for left handies.
What im wondering is do they make life easier or more difficult for left handers- are they really needed and what benefits do they have.
Any left handers used these, your views would be appriciated before i go and buy them.

I'm left handed and always have been, I have a full set of left handed screwdrivers, a left handed socket set etc, all have been very good investments.0

As a left hander who can do pretty much nothing right handed (except use a mouse)I'd say don't bother. I was brought up with 'normal' non lefty stuff like rulers, clocks, scissors, tin openers and you just adapt. I was given a pair of right handed scissors as a gift once and I couldn't work out how to use them..turned them upside down and used them the right-handed way!

My son and husband are both lefties and I am reminded of the day I bought hubby a left handed tape measure as a present thinking it would be a great benefit. He kept opening the darn thing the wrong way being so used to a right handed one that in the end he had a massive tantrum at it and threw it in the bin. The school also gave my lad left handed scissors which he cant use as he cuts right handed (dont ask me I dont understand it!) On the other hand the left handed potato peeler has been brilliant!
Personally we never bothered with the left handed rulers as DS really wasnt bothered by using a right handed one, would recommend the left handed pen though as 'normal' pens tended to put pressure on his finger.SPC No 002 SPC(3) £285/£250 (4) £519.84/£500 (5) £768.32/£500 (6) £911.30/£600 (7) £913.23/£600 (8) £1184.82/£750 (9) £2864.04/£750 (10) £3846.25/£1000 (11) £1779.72/£1000 (12) £1596.55/£1000 (13) £1534.70/£1000 (14) £775.60/£1000 (15) £700.20/£1000 (16) £2081.34/£1000 (17) £1691.15/£1000 (18) £25/£10000 -
I'm a lefty, but find most of its just a gimmick; I just use normal stuff, its more convenient.2011 Wins : Models own makeup product, Photoplusx4 software:j Mens hair dye :rotfl:0

My DS2 is a leftie and manages either to use things upside down,or back to front in his left hand, or has taught himself how to do them right handed. I did buy him a pen, but he feels one with a slip on triangle grip fits him better. It's what is inside your head that matters in life - not what's outside your windowEvery worthwhile accomplishment, big or little, has its stages of drudgery and triumph; a beginning, a struggle and a victory. - Ghandi0

Ditto. I even write 'normally' now and have never noticed any difficulties caused by being a lefty - except I apparently cut bread the wrong way round!0 -
i'm a leftie and cant use left handed scissors for the life of me
i use right handed scissors in my left hand. no idea how i make it work but it does! things like rulers work fine as you can just use them upside down. in fact i dont think i have never known you can get them
tin openers are my biggest problem  i have an electric one now:rotfl:

I really wouldnt bother, it will just confuse his brain paths for when he actually has to use righty stuff.
He will adapt as millions have done before before some bright spark came up with the idea of left hand rulers.make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.0 -
I would say the only "problem" at school with being lefthanded is that they use whiteboards and pens early on, and because they write from left to right, he was getting covered in ink. I solved this by buying him short sleeved t shirts and polos, and told him to take his jumper off or push up his sleeves when using marker pens of any kind. Apart from scissors, I can't see why anything needs to be left handed. Most items can be used in either hand. I am right handed but slightly ambidextrous and I've never had any problem using things in my left hand. Except my toothbrush. Lack of fine motor control.0
