I'm not sure what to do with my hair....I won a free hair cut in May and haven't had it cut since then (apart from free fringe trims from a hairdressing friend) and it was a chin length bob with layers cut in. Now it's grown out and looks a mess but apart from having a bob again there's not much else I can do with it so I may just get it cut the same way again just before my birthday. I would also like it bright pink again but that's not very professional when it comes to looking for jobs etc. I dyed it black myself and it went a weird gingery colour in places due to it being bleached for the pink so I dyed it black again. When I had roots again I went for a purpley colour (OH was dyeing his roots so I just used what was left) so now my hair is a mixture of black, purple, brown and ginger. I could strip it back to my natural colour (mousey brown) to get rid of the black and go for a dark brown? Do I get this done professionally or can I just do it at home?
Sorry for the long wittering post, hope everyone is pampering themselves
Willow - i've had my hair every colour under the sun, and when it was bright red last time, I used a think called Colour b4 which stripped out the red. However since I'd bleached my hair for the red it took it to a honey blonde kind of colour - and I put a brown semi over that.
If you're unsure of doing this at home yourself, I'd go to a hairdresser but stripping it will take it to the bleach, not your natural colour. PM me if you want any more infocarpe diem

Willow - first don't panic and don't do anything drastic - your hair has had enough and needs a rest.:D
My sister once did something very similar - it ended up several different colousr and felt like straw - with a sore and itchy scalp into the bargain.
Stripping the hair can be quite risky and if you're left with bleached hair anyway you are still going to have to add colour to tone it down.
You might not want to hear this but TBH your best option might be to go for a short crop and start again. If you do much more you are in danger of the hair breaking anyway. You could then perhaps try a Level 2 colour to blend in with the hair that's left and even out the colours. You might need to do this a couple of times, crop and then colour until all the bleach and permanent dye is gone.
Lots of conditioner and try and avoid hot styling tools for a while to give your hair time to recover. Be gentle with your hair and it will soon recover.
Then just put it down to experience:)
Welcome Betony. Re WW -v- SW. Well I go to WW and Maman has reached her target with SW. I think both are pretty good - they both concentrate of healthy eating and encouraging exericse.
I don't buy any WW products I prefer to cook "proper food", I tend to avoid ready meals and processed food, as much for health and financial reasons. I also like to know what I'm eating - Mum always called me a "Fussy Madam":rotfl:
I think the main benefit with all good slimming clubs is the support and encouragement you get. I've made some nice new friends too.
Anyway = off to bed, curl up with a good book.
Have to confess skipped the exercise today - will do better tomorrow.
Promise.
G'night all x0 -
I'm lucky that my hair is still really soft and shiny despite dyeing and bleaching it so many times. Then again I do take care of it in other ways, I've probably used straighteners about 6 times in total in the past 2 years, I stay out of the sun and I don't swim so it doesn't get damaged by heat, sun or chlorine. I think I'll just leave it as it is for now coz I don't really mind about having brown roots for a bit longer. Then I'll think about a semi permanent dark brown which should blend in with the faded black.
Now I'm off for a shower (body brush first though!) then smother myself in Body Butter, would also like to paint my nails but I took all of my nail varnish to my OH's.Savings £8,865.22 £/15,000 Aiming to save enough for a house deposit.0 -
I didn't plan to post tonight as off in the morning but the chat's too good to stand on the sidelines!! So I'll be quick!;)
Welcome betony. As LL said. I'm a SW convert. In about 10 months I lost 3st 3lbs and I'm still delighted :j I'd never been to a club or been on a diet before and I wasn't looking forward to the 'happy clappy' stuff but I've made good friends and it's really worked for me. SW doesn't have any branded products, you're NEVER hungry and it's basically about cooking from scratch so if you have plenty of time then it could be exactly what you're looking for! And once you start losing you'll be really motivated to get dressed and do your make up to go to class!:)
My hair is a nightmare but with one saving grace that I have almost no grey hairs at all. It's thin, fine and 'kinky' and naturally mousey brown. For years I've had it highlighted with blonde and caramel bits to brighten it. It's cut in a shortish bob but it has to be blow dried to keep it looking half decent so no 'wash and go' for me. I always have it cut and coloured professionally and it costs me a fortune!!!
One last comment. I can't thank bratz enough for giving me the heads up on that block thing for shaping nails. I keep it by my chair in the sitting room and shape and buff my nails much more regularly as a result plus it's so easy to use. This week I caught DH using it to file a rough nail and he was very complimentary of my new purchase. The block is really lightweight and it's going in my bag for tomorrow's flight and I won't have any issues about taking a dangerous object onto a plane (which has happened before with a nail file!).
See you all when I get back next week. Be happy!:wave:0 -
Morning all,
Floss - I don't think I'd talk him into a walking holiday. Last time we went abroad, many moons ago!, was to Austria and that was lovely - was very bike-friendly so he had one hired and could go out for rides etc while I wandered round the town or went to the pool. Also it had a lot of activities so he went on one that involved jumping off rocks and going through rivers and stuff  while I quite happily stayed at the hotel! Anyway, it's not like we'll be going abroad anytime soon so not worth worrying about at the moment lol.
Betony - welcome! I would try and see the fact that you have plenty of time to yourself as a positive thing - I know I would kill for it sometimes :rotfl:If you're feeling a bit bored though maybe think about something you would enjoy doing, a new hobby, join a group, exercise class etc. Could get you out and meeting new people which could give you a boost? Regarding ww vs sw I don't think there's much better them really, they're both more about the group support I think. I would maybe lean a little more towards sw as I think ww tends to focus on their own brand a bit and sw is more about making your own meals rather then processed things. However I've not been for ages so maybe it's changed since then.
Maman - have probably missed you by now but have a wonderful holiday x
All the hair talk is interesting, I keep thinking whether to cut mine but a bob or something requires more upkeep and I can see it just looking a mess if I'm rushing in the morning and don't have time to style it properly. I think I need more ways to style my hair really, have started doing a side plait or putting a wave in it rather then just scraping it back but still a bit boringIsn't dyed at the moment, had a reddish colour on it a few months back but seems to be all gone now. Hmm, so could either get a new colour or if not could do with getting some of the 'brunette' shampoo again. It puts really nice different tones into my hair - I love the John Freida one but is very expensive so tend to settle for the Superdrug own brand version
Anyway, was back to choir last night which was great. Really enjoyed it, though we're working on more complex things now so definately felt like a bit of a workout lol. (which is just as well since no exercise for me yesterday!) Ended up going for a quick drink with them afterwards, was nice to catch up and feel involved again. I think sometimes I overanalyse things there - there are a few people, especially in my section, who can be very clicky and sometimes it's easy to feel a bit left out. Last night kind of reminded me that they are the minority, if they don't want to involve people then there are lots of other people there who are lovely so I should just stick to themWas rather late back so didn't have time for much else, catch up on things tonight I think.

Well today it's the half-way mark, till our Winter Solstice deadline. How are we doing.
TBH - I'm behind my self imposed schedule but not too concerned. For me the changes I'm making now are for life, so anything I do has to be sustainable over the long term. This time I'm not looking for a quick fix - I've done that before and they don't really work.
So for me - it's slow but steady.
For those of us who want to lose some weight - if we put our mind to it we can still lose a stone by Christmas.
So ladies -let's go for it. We will be Christmas Crackers.
Went shopping today at Sainsbury's - stocked up on vitamins (3for2), a couple of thick jumpers for OH (£20) and some nice new bakeware (half-price). Now that my oven is working properly I'm in full domestic goddess mode.:D
Oh and some nice new warm furlined slippers, my kitchen floor gets really cold. Next time I chose a tiled floor I will have underfloor heating installed first.:rotfl:
So all in all plenty of bargains today.
Have noticed that my skin is already starting to feel the effects of winter - cooler winds and central heating.
Need to really concentrate of skincare now. To be discussed........................
However, too tired tonight - OH has been displaying some "challenging" behaviour. I know it's not him - it's the illness but tonight I'm dead on my feet.
An early night for me .......................
G'night all x
PS Don't know what happened with the heading - must have pressed a wrong button somewhere. Just ignore.0 -
Betony-I have made a little effort; wearing perfume every day (when I remember!) and putting on light make up when I go to the shops. The problem is that I don't work and have no............ social life, so unlike many others I have plenty of time to myself and so most days have no reason to go anywhere. Therefore I tend to think to myself, 'what's the point?' The point is, I suppose, that I would feel better about myself but I am such I slacker that I need a kick up the bum every now and then and preferably from people who understand, otherwise I let things slide.
this is my problem. haven't been on for a while everyone seems to be moving forward and I don't seem to be so didn't want to bring the mood down, have been reding though. Went to doctors about feeling low - not much help - felt it was down to relationship issues and offered me confidence counselling. I'm willing to give it a go but told them to contact me via email as don't want to be ridiculed for doing it. So what do they do? send me a letter which he obviously wants to know what it is. This isn't the 1st time something like this has happened. I try to do something about my situation and it just creates even more problems. No wonder women just put up with stuff good job he isn't violent just imagiine the problems it could have caused!
Am still doing some fab stuff just don't feel that my hearts in it but glad many of you are doing so well.

Lizzie - hun, please feel free to tell me if I'm out of line here but it does seem a little from things you've said that some of the problems with you feeling low seem to be related to the fact your partner doesn't seem very supportive. Would he genuinely ridicule you for wanting to go to something that could help you to feel better about yourself? I really think you should give the counselling a try as it might help you to stand up for yourself a little more and to make any changes you want to. Try not to feel bad if you don't feel you're progressing that fast - we're all on baby steps! Sending you *hugs* if needed, you seem like such a lovely person and I just think if you could realise that more you wouldn't be so affected by other people's behaviour to you xx0
