Why didn't the copper book the van and cars parking on yellow lines

I was in town today waiting for the bus and police van to move so i could cross the road but there was a van and cars parked on yellow lines so the bus was struggling to get past, so instead of the copper getting out of the van and doing something he just sat there and watched the bus driver struggle, so when the bus finally got past the copper just drove off and didn't do anything about the van and cars

In most areas I've seen, the police stopped issuing parking tickets a long time ago. This is now left up to the council to implement.
This link will explain why the police can only give tickets in some areas.

Shaun's explanation is part of the answer (or the whole answer where the police have had the authority to issue tickets removed - I think they can still take action is someone is 'blocking the highway'), but there is another aspect to the more general problem of why it's often all but impossible to get the police to take any action over breaking the law.
It's simply this:
Some offences are measured and used by the home office to measure the so called 'efficiency' of a police force, and others aren't. Good luck trying to get the police to expend any effort on offences that do not count on the home office algorithm for computing the forces performance. There are two types of people in the world: Those that can extrapolate information.0 -

Not 'his' job I expect. If he's not traffic police, he probably couldn't care less. Plus even traffic police probably don't care about stuff like that - too busy chasing 'tools' in stolen Subarus."Growth for growth's sake is the ideology of the cancer cell" - Edward Abbey.0

As Shaun said alot of areas have handed over control to the council. Here to learn and pass on my experiences.

Also the coppers may have been on their way to a prearranged appointment/Court/operation. If it was a meat wagon they may have a suspect in custody that they need to get to the nick asap but not a blue light emergency. The man without a signature.0

One evening last week, busy main road with a pull in lay by bus stop. In bus stop is copper on the phone. Along comes bus. Bus cannot get in stop, copper does not move so bus is forced to stop on the main road for a good couple of minutes while passengers get on and off. This blocks the road.
Bus leaves. Copper drives off. Amazing.0 -

The copper wanted a captive audience (the bus passengers), to show if you need to use the phone, pull overHere to learn and pass on my experiences.

Probably the better one..
Daughters high school is next door to a primary, the primary is renowned for road parking on the zig zags and to be honest its nothing short of a miracle there hasn't been an accident yet. Daughter's high school has a long drive with staff parking, however, due to daughter having a rather nasty accident some months back the school allow me to collect her from the door.
I start to turn into the school drive one evening when female PCSO jumps in front of the car telling me I can't enter. I explain to her I have the schools permission. She isn't impressed but waves me on. She then proceeds to stand half way up the school drive interrogating anyone who dares pull on it.
I collect daughter and as I'm pulling off I notice PCSO happily walking down the main road, past the primary and more specifically past half a dozen cars parked on zig zags causing chaos and one 90% on the pavement. Did she stop and move them? Have words with their drivers perhaps? Nope, on she walked.
Not a clue I'm telling you.0 -

Always seems to be the way. You get people moaning but not willing to make a complaint. The cop can do something without a complaint or if the traffic was stopped due to an actual obstruction. Struggling bus isn't an obstruction. and you didn't make a complaint.Shaun's explanation is part of the answer (or the whole answer where the police have had the authority to issue tickets removed - I think they can still take action is someone is 'blocking the highway'), but there is another aspect to the more general problem of why it's often all but impossible to get the police to take any action over breaking the law.

Statistics which can and are manipulated are all that counts, because the politicians say so, sad to say which is ruining many a good force. Said politicians have no a clue with regard to police work but they like their figures.pulliptears wrote: »One evening last week, busy main road with a pull in lay by bus stop. I take it you'd rather the cop had carried on driving whilst on the phone? You've no idea what that call was, it could have been an emergency, some cops are on call 24/7 for things like mountain rescue.0
