mrbadexample wrote:Well, I went to Boots, and after much searching, found the rosewater in the PERFUME section!
I asked the assistant to confirm that it was edible. She looked at me like I was from planet stupid in the idiot nebula. :rotfl:
She told me it wasn't, so I bought it anyway. I couldn't see anything in the contents that indicated it was toxic.
However, I would be most grateful if someone could confirm that I'm not about to kill anyone and it's genuinely the right stuff. It was £3.99 for 400ml, and I only need a tiny bit.
 Please stop right there!!!
I'm 99% sure that this is not the stuff you want to be putting in your truffles (please somebody else come along and back me up on this!!:p).
Rosewater from the perfume section will be different from the food stuff. I had a quick look at the big online supermarkets and found this, which should give you more of an idea what you are looking for...
Sorry: Edited to remove link, as it was linked to my personal Tesco log-in. Go to tesco.com and search for "rosewater" and 2 items will come up.
Its usually in the baking section. I couldn't find it online at Sainsbury's, Waitrose or Asda, but I'm fairly sure they all should sell it, so I would check in your local supermarket.
The stuff you have bought looks suspiciously like something you would put in the bath - so may be best to save it for relaxing in after you've finished cooking...

Mr BE that Rosewater looks like it is a perfume - one of the ingredients is actually parfum - maybe you could ask the chemist in Boots to be sure. As for cornstarch - according to wikipedia thats another name for cornflour (good thickening agent -should be in the bakery aisle at the supermarket).Never let your sucesses go to your head and never let your failures go to your heart.:beer:0

mrbadexample wrote:Secondly, what is corn starch? Morrisons don't appear to sell it. I think I managed to get everything else.
Corn starch is another word for cornflour, which is a thickening agent used in sauces/puddings. I'm sure Morrisons will have cornflour.

I didn't think it looked quite right
I hate this. I can handle the cooking, but the shopping's a flippin' nightmare. I'll have to go back again. I did ask if they did any other rosewater, and she said they didn't. :mad:If you lend someone a tenner and never see them again, it was probably worth it.0 -

This is why blokes don't cook. It's all written in a secret language that only girls understand.
I've seen the cornflour. The recipe says corn starch. The bloke in Morrisons said they didn't sell it.
Any more of this and I'll have to kick the cat, and it's not his fault. If you lend someone a tenner and never see them again, it was probably worth it.0 -
shop assistants can either be fantastic or completely useless - sounds like the one you encountered was the latter - good luck at the shops:xmassmileNever let your sucesses go to your head and never let your failures go to your heart.:beer:0

I think cornstarch is the American term for cornflour - any chance that the recipe is an american one?Never let your sucesses go to your head and never let your failures go to your heart.:beer:0

Rosewater is a byproduct but it should have been made from roses that have been distilled (looked it up on a wiki) - the stuff you bought looks like its for little old ladies to wear and doesn't actually name roses in the ingredients. I really wouldn't use it if it were meNever let your sucesses go to your head and never let your failures go to your heart.:beer:0
