That receipe looked a nightmare ToxicLemon! I think it would be best to stick to Frys turk delight in the sexy pinky purple wrapper :rotfl:
It's identical to the one Mr BE is doing!!! It's not that bad, to be honest. It's only boiling a sugar syrup and adding corn flour. Pretty simple, really. :D

Have you got any baking parchment? ( it's like a very non stick greaseproof paper for lining cake tins ) If you have some, I would cut it to the size of the tin or pan you are using and line the tin or pan with that. The turkish delight should come off that easily enough and won't stick to the tin.

Edited to add - I've just looked up on the internet and found another turkish delight recipe - it says to line the tin with cling film and then lightly oil the cling film ( I would use a plain sunflower oil, not olive oil or stuff with a strong flavour as it might give you odd tasting turkish delight ) - but that could work as a lining if no baking parchment available! )

Predictably, no baking parchment. :o I have greasproof paper and cling film though - the cling film looks favourite at the moment!
If you lend someone a tenner and never see them again, it was probably worth it.

Hence why I suggested it! I'm starting to get the feel of you now! :p

Oh good. You've just been nominated as chief helper! :p

How am I going to gauge the boiling sugar mixture - I have no thermometer? What, exactly, is the "soft-ball" stage?

Get a saucer of COLD water (or a bowl). After a while, pour about a teaspoon of mixture into the saucer, let it sit for a few seconds and then try to form a soft ball with your fingers.

Do this fairly regularly because a couple of minutes extra boiling can really change the consistency. You don't want the ball not forming properly and splurging into the cold water, but you don't want it so that you can easily pick it up. Somewhere in between. A 'soft' ball.

Do you 2 need to get a room? (Maybe one with an oven in - or are things hot enough already? :p )
Ex board guide. Signature now changed (if you know, you know).
  • Ooh, another tip: change the water after each soft ball 'test'. And shortly after you start boiling, add some to some cold water regularly. You know it isn't ready but it will start to give you a feel of what it's like and over the time, you will fell how it changes.
