just a thought....is there anyone else in the school with the same lunch box????
i know in our small school, the children are allowed to get a snack out of their own lunch box at mid morning play....Give blood - its free0 -

This has really got nothing to do with carrot munching lunch boxes.
As for if we dont put sweets in problem solved......I cant really believe that people think a solution to this problem is not to put in sweets/crisps. Its my fault someone steals .
What will it be next, my son/child has brought in a fancy rubber /pen/keyring etc and it is pinched. Is the solution , not too bring in anything that is remotely wanted.
Thanks for the reply's, i will see the teacher tomorrow and raise my concerns again, if that doesnt work , maybe my son will come down with horrendous constipationand need a few bars of laxative chocolate...... only joking
No one is suggesting it's your fault it gets nicked.
Just that that (IMHO) isn't an appropriate lunch for a child of that age, and I'd be expecting a whingy phone call from the school if I sent my DD1 (or any of them for that matter) in with that lunch!Mum of several with a twisted sense of humour and a laundry obsession:o

Lockable lunch box is one idea
another idea is to set a trap.........0 -

I understand that, but the topic was about stealing in school, not " how to make a healthy lunch box":)0 -
My DD1 is in year 4 and her teacher woud ring me if she had a pre packed fruit bag, crisps and chocolate for lunch with no sandwich!
Have the teachers got nothing better to do but inspect kids lunchs and then waste time phoning around parents? What happens to the naughty parent who sends in a pack of Walkers?! School interference gone mad.
OP I would ask the teacher if the lunch boxs can all be placed in a lockable place - cupboard etc.... there must be somewhere safer they could be kept. Ide also want to know if this is happening to other children.
Good Luck0 -

Knowing you Pastures - thats a serious suggestion....and actually its not a bad one....:)
What you could do OP is to say to the school that it is THEIR responsibility to keep the food somewhere where it is safe from being stolen and say that this must, presumably, have happened to other children as well (ie not just your child).
If they dont instantly say that they will urgently look into providing a safe place for the food - then say "You leave me no alternative - I will have to make laxative cake and put it in my childs lunchbox for the thief to steal. We will soon see which child has a bad case of the squits" and I would do precisely that.
Yes...I DO feel sorry for any child that is stealing because of poverty - but the thief concerned may well be/probably is stealing for quite other reasons. Either way - whatever reason they are doing this for - they need to learn as a child that stealing is not acceptable. It will be a bit too late for them to learn this lesson once they reach adulthood:cool:0 -

Actually, a crap lunch/breakfast can be the cause of lack of attention in class, tiredness, hunger..etc. So yes, teachers should be concerned because not only is it bad for the kids healthwise, it also interferes with proper schooling and makes their job more difficult and less efficient. But then, it's not what the OP was asking - it's only a secondary point that emerged from her post.0 -

My DD1 has been known to pinch things, she is a very difficult child for many reasons, and the teacher is very good and will ring me if she suspects DD1 is behind it. She doesn't steal from other children, but she will 'swap' other childrens things around (she once swapped a lunchbox from one child's bag with a shoe from another child's bag:huh: ) So I do realise that kids are not machines and all have their own weird ideas of what is OK.
I'm not sure why the child doing the stealing is doing it, perhaps if the teacher did check the lunchboxes she would notice if one of the other kids has little/no lunch and so needs to steal?!
The OP must tell the teacher every single time, maybe the teacher can keep her childs lunch seperate, that will let the thief know they've been rumbled anyway.Mum of several with a twisted sense of humour and a laundry obsession:o

...and maybe another angle on how to deal with this is the same way one deals with problems affecting an adult - ie keep a diary of what got stolen and when and what effect it had on OP's child (ie only had x left to eat for lunch). Go to the school with it after several thefts and say "This thief is causing my child to go hungry and costing me money - now either you deal with it or I do. If I have to - then I will be calling the police".
That would probably soon put the wind up them and they would make sure the lunches were kept somewhere secure.
...and of course if O.P. has made sure she's on the Parent Teachers Association/Board of Governors (whichever thing it is these days that I would have made sure I got onto personally if I had had a child and wanted to "keep an eye" on the school) then that opens a few more "possibilities"...0 -

Aside from the fact that I'm astonished the school lets you put junk in the lunch box, I'd suggest changing the lunch box so it's less recognisable, and/or putting a lock on it. I'd also certainly chase it up with the school because unless your boy is specifically being victimised I would imagine that other people are having their junk stolen from their lunchboxes as well.0
