Sky Broadband - worth doing?

I signed up for the base package for £40 activation (got a router modem which retails at over £60) and no monthly fee (2mb speed with 2gb cap). Got modem 2 days after signup and was activated within 10 days. I have been online about 4 weeks without any trouble at all and up to know, cannot fault them.
However, it is apparent from https://www.skyuser.co.uk that if things go bad, they go terribly bad. The majority, like me, appear to be lucky without any trouble at all. But, the ones who have problems have terrible problems. If you get a problem that the helpstaff cannot sort out over the phone, you are promised a callback about 5 days later, which often never happens. I am aware of people still being unconnected after 3 months.0 -

Lucky you! I went for the Max package back at the end of October and am STILL WAITING to be connected!! They came to install the dish and tv box quick enough - I've been happily watching Sky Movies almost 3 months. But the original quote of 5 days to connect the broadband soon turned into 5 weeks because of "a problem with the BT exchange"?!? Several weeks later, we're still waiting, having cancelled with our original provider (pipex - good but expensive) and now broadbandless.
Hmm...maybe I'll call BT and find out exactly what the "problem" is!Emmylou wrote:DO NOT GO WITH SKY.
... get told that it's a problem with BT Openreach. We cheat and call BTO ourselves ... to be told that they had passed a problem back to Sky for resolution.0 -

Hi
i am going to cancel my sky 3 months half price offer and ask for free sky+ i am sure feb/march is good time for that;)Honesty is the best policy doesn't matter which web site
you are on!
if i had known then what i know now!
a bargain is only a bargain if you really need it!0 -
I eventually got a MAC code from Tiscali, registered with Sky, paid my £20 installation fee for mid package, only to find Sky cannot accept Tiscali customers through the migration scheme as Tiscalli are LLU, and Sky are not. Sky said only option was to cancel with Tiscali, wait for line release then register with Sky = 2-3 weeks down time.
Is this right?0
