  • I started out using Freecycle but got frustrated with it's limitations and the number of emails I was receiving.

If any of you are looking for an alternative to Freecycle maybe consider looking at www.SnaffleUp.co.uk

It's the same idea but easy to register and very user-friendly to use. You can customise your email alerts so you don't get overwhelmed by too much email.

    Chris.
  • I was trying to use Freecycle but their Gillingham Kent group is administered through Yahoo and I experienced massive problems trying to join. Never had a reply. Ended up putting a sideboard on ebay for 1p and sold it for £33!
  • Freecycle is a great system but you need to be very careful as you sign up. I found the process confusing because I didn't realise that it involved Yahoo Messenger. In my ignorance I ended up with 50+ emails every day and found the system took more than 3 days to change my preferences. I hope the idea succeeds but it could have a much better operating system.

I'm not sure what Yahoo Messenger is, and haven't used it, but when you sign up to Freecycle you can opt for individual emails as and when they come through, or a 'daily digest' of emails. If I'm going to be around most of the time, I use individual emails; if I'm not around (or just can't be bothered) I switch to 'daily digest'. It usually changes quite promptly.
