Not best chuffed!!!!!
Oh I am so glad I am not alone, with me it was when I was straining FAT. Not only did that go down the plug hole, but I'd grabbed a plastic strainer instead of a metal one, so the melted plastic went straight down too. :eek:A friend is someone who overlooks your broken fence and admires the flowers in your garden.0 -
I'm hoping that somebody on here can help me out with this problem.
I've not done any baking for absolutely years (about 18 to be precise). I used to consider myself quite good at it but have forgotten so much since.
When it comes to using golden syrup in a recipe, is it possible to use honey instead? Are the two actually interchangeable in a recipe? What I've got in mind is for things like flapjack recipes.
My oven temperature is positively uncontrollable and unreliable - have managed to get a temp suitable for roasting by setting the dial to less than Gas Mark 1 - anything more than that and things get incinerated! New cooker obviously called for - but need to save a few pennies first!
Many thanks folks

hi
i've found that when i've mede flapjack with honey instead of syrup, its not as sweet, and not as ''brittle'', which i prefer
just experiment with how much you use, and see if you like it.......of course there is the added bonus of it being less fattening!0 -
I swap them - as MM1 says, the results are different, but not bad.
Maple syrup is another great alternative for flapjack. Add pecan or wall-nuts too.

Many thanks, mandy-moo and Penelope Penguin.
I had a feeling that I should be able to swap them but wasn't quite sure if they had 'different effects' when melted and mixed with other ingredients.
I bought a jar of 'smart price' honey the other day (now decanted from plastic container into a glass jar (after thorough sterilising first of course!) - didn't even know that they did a 'smart price version'! Also found some of the dessicated coconut for 10p in Asda.

Hi there everyone,
I was going to make some apple oatie/flapjack things but the recipe calls for golden syrup... do you reckon I could use honey instead??
Any thoughts?/experience I don't want to waste the ingredients if the honey won't work, but haven't got any golden syrup in at the minute!
ThanksThs signature is out of date because I'm too lazy to update it...0 -
I often make them using honey instead, it gives a different flavour but is still yummy.0
