Have to confess, I NEVER look at NCAP when picking a car. I knew what we needed and the Grand Voyager ticked all the boxes. It was either than or a minibus. (although there might have been a merc thing too, not the one bigjl refers to though).

Before we bought our Voyager, we looked at the whole jap import thing but basically the wife didnt like the look of them (are a lot of them also autos?)so that was that

It's also worth checking your insurance to see if you have glass cover or windscreen cover. Some of them have large glass panels on the roof? or a couple of sunroofs?

Think theres a thread on here about an insurance company either not going to replace the glass or write the car off because of the cost involved.

Chryslers look nice but the only ones I can find are out of our price range.

Ours was only 4,300 - it was an 53 plate with 70K on the clock. If you don't mind traveling a bit to go and get one they are out there. A friend has recently got an 03 plate with only 60k on the clock for 4900 ok so they aren't new new cars by any stretch of the imagination but they're not ancient.

Yes, there are a few there if I go to 20 miles.
    Hmmmm.
  • 20 miles is nothing, my husband went on the train 150 miles away to get ours, and our friends got theirs from a dealer 90 miles away. Its worth traveling that extra few miles for a well-priced car :D if there's a few 20 miles away you can have a day trip and go road testing :T

The big Merc used to be a V Class, but they replaced it with the Vaneo or something like that, not the wierd looking thing based on the A Class but more of a converted Vito.van much like the V Class was.

I knew a bloke with a V Class years ago, his was a 2.8 petrol and he used it for Private Hire work, and he didn't even convert it to LPG!

I agree that it's fine to pick up a car, but it would be a rather annoying trip if the car is no good when you get there.

What do people think of the Citroen C8?

The Citroen C8 Exclusive has got loads of space and is packed full of extras, including; electric rear sliding side doors, automatic headlamps and windscreen wipers, cruise control, climate control, automatic retractable door mirrors, chilled glove box, parking sensors, loads of airbags and Alcantara upholstery, plus many, many more (you maybe lucky to find one with the interactive satellite navigation package with built in mobile phone system). You could find an 05 plate 2.0HDi with sixty to seventy thousand miles on the clock, for under £5,000.

There are bargains to be found if you are prepared to look as well as maybe finding someone who was kind enough to add a few of their own extras as well. I particularly like the Alcantara upholstery. It is a sort of hard wearing, but very comfortable, faux suede. It is not the fasted vehicles on the block, but is packed with lots of extras and is very good value for money
The greater danger, for most of us, lies not in setting our aim too high and falling short; but in setting our aim too low and achieving our mark
