I do not agree with commiting fraud, but I think what must not be lost sight of is that Mr T is happy to suggest that his prices are the “best” when clearly they are not. When he is then caught out he loses his bottle.

What I find amazing is that everyone seems happy for Mr T to commit what to all intents and purposes is fraudulent misrepresentation but gets a bit irked when it is a customer shafting him. And let's also not forget their very clever marketing that's designed to deceive their customers (bigger pack better value, smaller packs working out cheaper tha bigger ones, packaging designed to mimic premium brands, etc etc) Mr T doesn't care about his custoners only their £££.

Lets not forget that the grocery industry in the UK is the biggets rip off in Europe and probably the world. Their margins far outstrip what similar retail make elsewhere (by 2 or 3 times). Why do you think Mr T and his competitors in the UK post massive profits compared to their equivalents abroad?

Let's get some perspective on this. £400 is a joke to Mr T. He made his bed now let him deal with the consequences!

Oh for goodness sake, I really don't understand this type of rant. It's not 'fraudulent misrepresentation' at all. At the end of the day it is a business & they are all in it to make profits. They claim that for a general shop their baskets are cheaper, & for me that's generally the case. On many items Asda's standard prices are actually dearer, okay it may be only 1 or 2 pence, yet they too claim to be the cheapest. That can't be true either then. All supermarkets have their promotions, loss leaders etc to bring the customers in & these change regularly, so it will always be the case one is cheaper for one thing, another is cheaper for something else.

As for a business dealing with the consequences, the answer is simple. The losses will be passed on to the consumer in the form of price rises as they do with shoplifting losses for example.

Competition is healthy & benefits us the consumer. I for one would much prefer it to price fixing where all supermarkets charged the same & then charged what they wanted to. We'd certainly all be paying more then.
The marketing strategies you refer to are used by all. As for margins outstripping other companies worldwide, well, the company with the biggest profit margin worldwide is Walmart...the American company that owns Asda, so our hard earned cash is syphoned off across the pond. Carrefour by the way comes in second, above Tesco.

By the way, have you tried living in Europe? My husband travels to France regularly & I used to give him a shopping list. This is going back a few years as I don't anymore. Even olive oil is cheaper here. Eastenders, notorious for it's cheap booze, has had to close as it's prices no longer attract the custom. Oh, & don't get me started on Denmark, Sweden etc. I don't like the increase in the cost of living any more than you do but to say it's just the UK is not true.

Well we can all see why Tesco stopped DTD. Greedy people will always ruin it for all.

I used the dtd i had a few vouchers it was good while it lasted But their is some greedy people and to boast about it you will never stop greed and they do ruin it for others
  • OMG that's my neck of the woods  I did already know about the person you are already referring to, and had already read the police story some weeks back (or it seems that long ago anyway) but I had no idea they may be near me. That may be why I've been having more trouble that usual lately.

That's my area too. I used DTD vouchers in Chichester and Havant store (I only ever had 3 or 4 in total though, so no abuse from me!)

I found staff in both stores were not trained at all regarding the use of these vouchers and the last I used one something had recently happened - someone had been abusing the system very badly I was told and the staff were only allowed to take the coupons at the managers discretion.
