I've been reading an advance copy of Zero Waste Home: The Ultimate Guide to Simplifying Your Life by Bea Johnson (out July, http://www.penguin.co.uk/nf/Book/BookDisplay/0,,9781846147456,00.html).
The author describes how she reduced her family's household waste to virtually nothing, with advice on how others can do the same.
Her mantra is the Five Rs: Refuse, Reduce, Reuse, Recycle, Rot.
    She has a blog here
    http://zerowastehome.blogspot.co.uk/
which will either inspire you, or make you feel envious of her super-virtuous lifestyle:)

Very inspiring, I love reading things like that. Not sure I'll ever get down to her 1 litre of waste a year though! I rarely go shopping these days and have been decluttering for about 10 years  albeit if I still lived in a house I probably wouldn't have needed to declutter.. I hate throwing things out unless I can sell, recycle or give away and try not to buy any cheap tat (which seems to fill the high street shops these days).

Her kitchen drawers put mine to shame on seeing those pics :o

Right, 10 items to go in the charity bank bag this weekend...

Started the day with opening some slightly out of best before date cranberry juice, I won it but don't really like it. As I've run out of OJ I've opened it to use, so one less thing cluttering up the fridge too.

    I've been Money Tipped!
    Morning all.

Spent just 69p yesterday on a Pizza Express pizza for 50p and a pack of apple and blackberry crumbles for 19p - both in my single freezer. lol

Gardening today and no shopping needed, but will have a look tonight when putting the lottery on.

Toast for breakfast and pasta bake already made for later.
Beef dinner tomorrow (some cooked beef out of freezer) and use up carrots, swede and potato. I might make a batch of veg soup to use up what's left. Fridge is very bare and needs stocking when I get back.

I wish I had a Waitrose on my doorstep!! Great bargains there.

Deleted_User - hubby hasn't tried the dress on yet. :D

Kirri - M&S Outlet does have great offers now and then, but my wardrobe has now taken over from my "freezer" - full of unused stuff!!
The M&S Outlet online prices are well above the Outlet Shop prices.
BTW, my jeans were only meant to be £39.50 and NOT £39.99 - not such a great saving after all. lol

It's rather going against the thread ethos of using up stuff rather than suggesting what to buy:) but the organic seeds in the Aldi Special Offers from Sunday look good value, at 55p/100g
    http://www.aldi.co.uk/uk/html/offers/special_buys3_30309.htm
certainly cheaper than my local healthfood shop, and cheaper than H&B.

^ Sounds like you need to join a clothes thread now!

WP - was it the IOW you went to? You were so lucky with the weather. Was lovely down here in London, had the bikini top on, on the allotment for the first time this year :D

JB - wow organic in Aldi - my nearest one would mean using the car so I never go in one. I've been buying Infinity organic from a range in a health shop which seem a good price.

Egg on toast for breakfast, would have just had toast but only 1 small slice left so had to pad it out a bit. Finished the last of the tabasco sauce on it, will miss that, goes so well with eggs and omelettes.

Got bread rising at the mo, will reheat the dhal from yesterday for lunch in a bit.

Yes the IOW we usually go twice a year think this was our 7th time it is the only place I would leave my beloved Wales for.
This time we went to the Donkey sanctuary 85 donkeys some were older than me!! over 45 years old it was a fab place:-)
I also went back to the Convent and sister remembered me from last year she is such a sweetheart in her 90's and originally from India and loves people and chatting.
Goodness me I could go on and on....then Quarr abbey with best HM cakes I have every tasted.
    Have you been?
I had to laugh people think I am a local which with my accent is laughable:-)

If only we could win the lottery we would move there it has such a relaxed laid back attitude very old fashioned in some parts which we love:-)
They are so proud of there Island and grow and source most things on Island the way it should be.

Sounds great, I've not been since I was at school but really want to go back, been meaning to at least do a day trip the last few years just to have a look around again and there's a few food places I'd like to visit too (garlic farm and IOW tomatoes - both of which sell at farmer's markets here in London). The nearest I've been in the last couple of years though is Portsmouth where I've stood and watched the ferries go over!

We used to go to IofW on family holidays years ago when I was little, but I haven't been back since; happy memories:)

Am fortunate to have one within walking distance,

Am also fortunate to have one within walking distance too; in fact, it's virtually across the road from Aldi.

Today I have been on the hunt for cumin seeds, but couldn't find them for love nor money (well, just money really, was all I had to offer:o). I visited the local asian supermarket, which must have over a hundred herbs and spices of every description, but no joy ("delivery on Tuesday" I was told). But I did buy a tin of Rose Coco Beans, for 29p - just 'cos I liked the name:)

Got a batch of Caramelised Red Onion Soup in the slow cooker, for tea; using up the last of the Aldi Super6 red onions, so very cheap (around 35p in total for four portions), and smells good too.
