Morning all. Just a quick hello. Will have to catch up later as I've a job interview to get ready for. Wish me luck! There's a storm coming, Mr Johnson. You and your friends better batten down the hatches, because when it hits, you're all gonna wonder how you ever thought you could live so large and leave so little for the rest of us.0

Morning all.
Lip_Stick - good luck today - fingers crossed here.
Spent just 30p yesterday on 2 packs of lamb's liver (for hubby). They had loads, all reduced to 15p per pack and they had loads of pork chops and pork joints. Some lucky Guy filled his trolley, but pork I don't need and easy to avoid ....................... this time anyway. lol
Just toast for breakfast and pie and mash for main meal.
Off to Asda for Brother's shopping soon and have a look. Might buy a couple of carrots just to get by and make a casserole and stir fry.
Catch up later.

3 jars of Quinoa (keep trying recipes and not liking them)
http://www.vegangela.com/tag/quinoa/
Some interesting-looking recipes on this blog (all vegan), including chilli, and the Puffed Quinoa Peanut Butter Balls which remind me of chocolate rice krispy squares but in a ball.
And more recipes on this blog

all veggie or vegan.
Keep us posted on any recipes you try and can recommend, as I'd like to try cooking with quinoa:)'It is better to remain silent and be thought a fool, than to open your mouth and remove all doubt.'

I made some Sweet Potato Pasties over the weekend, trying to make use of the Aldi Super 6 sweet potatoes. It's based on a recipe I grabbed online, but I made individual pasties rather than one big pie (the photo isn't mine!). They turned out OK, but I think I over-mashed the potatoes - the mixture could have done with been a bit more chunky.
Sweet Potato Pie / Pasties
Serves/Makes: 3 Prep: 30 minutes Cook : 40 mins
Ingredients
750g sweet potatoes
40g butter
1 large onion
1 tblsp cumin seeds
2 chillies
2 tsp harissa paste
200g spinach leaves
Bunch coriander
Salt and black pepper
125g filo pastry
melted butter
pumpkin seeds
Instructions:
1) Peel and slice the potatoes, put in a pan and rinse, then cover the potatoes with water, bring to the boil and simmer very gently.
2) Meanwhile peel the onion and cut into into wedges, slice the chilli in half lengthwise and remove the seeds and slice very finely, fry the onion and add the chilli
3) Add the spices and fry for a further 2 – 3 minutes, then stir in the harissa paste and salt and pepper, add the spinach and cover with lid until the spinach wilts down; allow to cool
4) Drain the potato and allow them to cool in the colander
5) Crush with the end of a rolling pin, and mix in the onion and spice mixture, add the chopped coriander and mix in. Allow the mixture to cool (A cold filling will not damage the pastry and the end result will be better.)
6) Using a flan tin or a spring clip tin, unwrap the pasty and carefully peel off one layer, place it into the flan tin and brush it with melted butter, put a second layer of pastry and brush again with butter; spoon in the vegetable mixture and spread over the pastry; sprinkle with chopped fresh coriander; top the pie off with two layers of filo over the potato and pinch them up to fit; brush with the remaining melted butter, and sprinkle on some pumpkin seeds
OR
to make individual pasties, take a sheet of filo pastry, brush with melted butter and fold in half, spoon in some of the mixture near one edge and fold over the filo pastry (brushing with butter) to make a pasty, turn over so folded side is at bottom, brush top and edges with more filo pastry and sprinkle on some pumpkin seeds
7) Cook in a hot oven (Gas 7 or 210C)
– pie for 30-35 minutes
– pasties for 20 minutes
... or until crisp and golden'It is better to remain silent and be thought a fool, than to open your mouth and remove all doubt.'

Another cooking day here! Just finished making a lasagna, will portion it out and freeze it later.
Used up a small bag Quorn mince, whole pack of T's value lasagna sheets, a half jar of pasta sauce + a cheap jar I bought in A's last week, PLUS a jar of salsa DM got in a Xmas present (it was a Nandos nacho dipping set: large bowl, small bowl and the salsa). We dont eat tortillas much so rather than it wasting I shall have extra tomato-y lasagna!!! :rotfl:
Taken some bits out of the freezer to do for meals during the week. Out tonight so that won't affect it, but have meatballs I made at the weekend for lunch and they're marinating in some l/o pasta sauce - shall attempt some kind of meatball sandwich thing.0 -
Afternoon.
Just 80p spent so far on a pack of bread buns for 50p (shared 2 packs for £1) and 3 carrots for 30p.
Decided on a stir fry tomorrow (1 carrot) and a pork casserole on Wednesday ( 2 carrots).
Might pop into Sainsbury's late on if passing, but only £1.10 spent so far this week.

I made Cinnamon/Raisin muffins last night - 9 went in the freezer. Two pasties came out.
Just took 3 crumpets out of the freezer today - nothing went in.
Still suffering workmen in the house - can't find a thing!
Dinner was pizza with HM wedges + cauliflower + baked beans. Had to boil saucepans + kettle of water to wash up - no hot water until tomorrow.Decluttering Achieved - 2023 - 10,364 Decluttering - 2024 - 8,365 August - 0/45

Was starving this morning due to the fasting, I didn't snack last night and by the time I thought I was hungry enough for a snack it was too late.. so ended up going from after dinner yesterday till mid afternoon today with no food..
Banana when I got home
Followed a bit later by toast and cheese for very late lunch
One pot dinner (Waitrose recipe) of salad potatoes, haloumi, cherry tomatoes and sweet peppers - all chucked in one tin in the oven in olive oil and herbs. (was supposed to be in a basil dressing but had no basil..).
Orange this evening.
So nothing out the freezer yet again, all fresh food from last week's delivery.
REALLY missing having any cakes, not sure whether to have a cake free week whilst waiting for the results.. or not..0 -
Morning all.
No further shopping yesterday and nothing really needed today. Just a look in Sainsbury's tonight if passing.
Toast for breakfast and prawns out for stir fry. Took out diced pork for casserole tomorrow and found a half pack of Tesco mini burgers hiding. I might get rid of them before the weekend.
Looks like you Guy's are getting a "heatwave" down south!!
Overcast and a bit windy here. Hopefully I'll still get in the garden though.
