Evening all. Had a lovely lamb dinner today at mam's. Lamb was lovely and tender. Went to aldi on the way to grab some of their super 6... spent £5! Bought onions, savoy cabbage, beetroot, chilies, carrots, a Ainsley Harriot Lebanese mix thing for koftas and falafel with cous cous. Need to buy yoghurt and something else for that, but it sounds really nice.
Mam just phoned, a 9 yr old kid next door to her, who plays with ds, was in their house (ds is staying at hers tonight) stole £80 that I'd given them for the washer! While on the phone dad walked in and had got it back off him. He's slightly special needs though, always asking things over and over, but he's stolen things more than once from the house... the other week it was a house key. He's not allowed in any more lol. Feel a bit sorry for him if it is a symptom of his illness, but you can't risk money like that going missing eh.
Kirri that's a massive cage! I like the way it's made and can be easily adapted for various shapes, great idea.
Welsh Poppy - you're doing well on your NSD!
Jelly - would love to hear your ideas. There's a storm coming, Mr Johnson. You and your friends better batten down the hatches, because when it hits, you're all gonna wonder how you ever thought you could live so large and leave so little for the rest of us.0 -
Evening all.
Just spent a little today, £1.64 in Sainsbury's on 4 pints of milk, a reduced loaf and a clearance mincemeat and bramley apple tart. Ate the tart between us and finished off the ice cream and another space. Also took out some dice beef for Tuesday and some rice for hubby tomorrow. I did freeze 12 slices of bread, but still 1 and a half empty freezer drawers.
Just snacked and main meal was mini jacket potatoes with cheese. Hubby had the chicken kebabs with salad and a few mini jacket potatoes.
A bit like "Ready Steady Cook", made the kebabs, some chicken, sweetcorn and noodle broth and curry tomorrow. Chicken curry tomorrow, so the diced chicken went far.
Welsh Poppy - your NSD's are very much amazing and I won't be challenging you with that.
I'll need carrots and might pop into Aldi tomorrow on the way home from my Brothers and that'll be it for a few day. I'll need a few things later in the week and will have to look for some offers on spread etc or just use Lidl.
2013 food spends = £47.70 - just over £12 left to get to Thursday.

Can you tell - having problems with Photobucket! Why did they change it - I could use the old version.
Last night out of freezer - bone for dog, 2 muffins and today's chicken - not made a lot of space!Decluttering Achieved - 2023 - 10,364 Decluttering - 2024 - 8,365 August - 0/45

Jelly - yes pls, always looking for new recipe ideas. I've been going through my 'HFW veg' book today and have a few new things to try - spicy carrot & chickpea pitta, puy lentil & spinach soup, quinoa & courgettes/onion and may try the dhal from that book too.
Lip_stick - I'd be banning that kid too, lucky your dad got it back!
Edwardia - they were vegan onesleft from xmas dinner.. Wasn't that keen on them but may try them with mash and fried onions this week.
Have also got a bean burger recipe now that looks fairly basic so may give that a go to start working on my frozen bean stash.
Will make some broad bean and onion dip for lunches. Takes a lot of broad beans to make enough for a dip so should get through the frozen stash fairly quick.
May try using some of my frozen fruit sauce in porridge... never had it, not sure I fancy it but it's cheap, filling and healthy so I should try it...0 -
Morning all.
Off to Brother's soon and he needs no shopping, so may be a NSD??
Skipping breakfast, trying the broth later - may have to eat it as no foxes here. lol
Scrambled egg probably later and chicken curry for hubby.
I have a packet of bacon to get rid of before "veggie week" and don't want to freeze it.
Nice bright day here ........................ hope it continues.

Morning all. Didn't sleep very well, was having some mad dreams lol.
Going to use some lamb mince up today and make the Lebanese koftas. Need to buy natural yoghurt and lettuce for it, so won't be a nsd. Looking forward to eating this meal. Should have enough for ds' pack up too.
Would give the ex some, but I'm finding food going down a lot quicker, which I can't afford, and I never know if he wants anything. One day he'll say 'You know me, if any food is going begging I'll have it.'. Then the next time after I've got enough out the freezer for all of us, he won't want it as he's got something at home. Plus, I don't see why I should have to feed him just so he sees his own son.
Might get a boiled egg and salad sandwich while out to eat at home. I love those.
Bunny - would love to try that sponge pudding mug recipe too. Think it'd be really nice if I pierced the pudding with a skewer and drizzled golden syrup into it... yummmmThere's a storm coming, Mr Johnson. I'm trying to use up the freezer still! Today, b/f banana, l h/m veg. soup and rye crackers, t- grilled chicken breast, butternut squash, new pots and sweet pot mash. Yummy!
I've only got 4 tins of baked beans left now! I had 24 for the longest time so I'm very pleased with myself! I've still got TONS in the freezer! Tomorrow I'm going to have stuffed butternut squash with mince, and pulses. Should make 2 evening meals as the squash is enormous! I split my mince into 100g bags to freeze as I'm 'slimming!' It's going well, I've lost 9lbs in 4 weeks! Yay! Myfitnesspal is WICKED for weightloss! Veggie Week Challenge & Aldi Super 6 Recipe:
Spicy Carrot & Chickpea Burgers
(been trying to find recipes for the Veggie Week Challenge that also made use of the Aldi Super 6, so here's the first...)
A fresh-tasting, colourful and easy-to-prepare variation on the vegeburger
Serves 4
350g carrots
400g canned chickpeas, drained
1 clove garlic, peeled and chopped
6 tblsp fresh coriander
1 1/2 teaspoons ground cumin
1 1/2 teaspoons ground coriander
1 large egg
2 tablespoons plain flour
oil for frying
1. Peel and coarsely grate the carrots
2. Put the chickpeas into a food processor with the garlic, fresh coriander, cumin and ground coriander. Process to a rough paste, then add the carrot, egg and flour and process briefly until evenly mixed but still slightly lumpy.
3. Heat the oil in a frying pan, and divide the mixture into 4 and shape into burgers. Fry for 4-5 minutes on each side, until golden, then drain on kitchen paper.
Serve in burger buns with salad, relish, etc.
If you want, you can make the burgers in advance and fry them later.'It is better to remain silent and be thought a fool, than to open your mouth and remove all doubt.'
