  • Hey guys

The clotted cream was a disaster, not sure if its because i used extra thick cream it said do t used ultra pasturised cream, or because i left it too long, pretty sute it's not supposed to burn, it had no form to it, similar to nothing but a pile of sick lol, have taken out the other double cream to try again tomorrow, is it because i froze the cream first do you think?

Did the Clotted Cream today, just taken it out of the SC and I am dripping it though muslin as I write. Seems to be loads of what I can only describe as liquid fat dripping through - had a taste of the clotted bit - yummy. Waiting for tea to finish cooking, a little like a 'watched kettle'

I feel silly talking about food with that going on but tonight I am cooking stuffed homemade chicken breasts (filled with my own receipe chilli / cheese / peppers combo) and wrapped in bacon. They are ginormous so maybe saving a bit for salad tomorrow.

This intrigues me! Do you mind giving me the recipe for your stuffing combo please? :D

Also, Lynsey - grapefruit with honey? what a very odd combo!

Snapped up Ecover washing powder and fabric conditioner on offer thanks Kirri :T

Noticed yesterday that Wilkinsons have Ecover fabric conditioner for £1.25, was £1.80 ish last week and £1.60 ish the week before... not at cheap as Waitrose this week but worth keeping an eye on. I don't shop in there often so not aware if their prices fluctuate like that all the time? Shop assistant was giving me funny looks, I was just walking up and down making a mental note of prices on what I might want shortly, while passing through to the cheap J cloths.

You sound addicted to shopping :D I don't know how you do it, I try and put off going as long as I can these days!

Just been reading through today's posts and having a chuckle at the clotted cream making exploits. I love clotted cream, but I need it like a hole in the head.... When I was out before I saw a pregnant woman in a jumper like mine and then realised that it WAS my reflection. I was so shocked and horrified by what I looked like that I kept going back and looking and began to wonder if there weren't some wise men and shepherds out looking for me.

Talking about fattening stuff - I went into Costco today for the first time in ages. I bought a tray of lovely looking pork chops, some large free range eggs, maple syrup, their dried onions (which is what I went in for), sea salt, bread sticks, baking potatoes and I thought I had resisted all temptation until I saw the Poppycock pecan and almond clusters by the checkout, which were reduced by £2.50. Sufficient to say that I have had no tea and now have no skin on the roof of my mouth or the inside of my cheeks with scoffing it down and I also feel really sick!! There is still over half a tub left (it was a BIG tub) and I am seriously thinking of binning it.

Whilst I was out at work today I made soup in the slow cooker, using up loads of veg - a mix of frozen peas, sweetcorn, leeks and mushrooms, with leftover cabbage and carrots from last night (chopped up), some chopped leftover chicken, chicken stock, a handful of pearl barley, water and a sachet of Knorr thick veg soup. Came in and it smelled lovely but I have had to save it for tomorrow as I was too busy eating Poppycock pocorn clusters:o

Theatregirl - when I used to eat grapefruit I always had it with honey - now I am allergic to it so can't have it but I remember it being nice!

trying to have a low spend day tomorrow - only really need milk. Any ideas for using up half a chicken? - don't fancy the usual curry or stir fry.

    I've been Money Tipped!
Morning all, bright clear skies here today ............... pity it's not summer!!

Deleted_User - hubby has been having honey on grilled grapefruit for years. When on holiday abroad, he will get a plate of grapefruit and orange segments, some pineapple slices and pour honey over that - he loves it. That's the great thing with forums, passing on bits we may never have considered.

Kirri - I was fully in control for about 36 weeks, but just want to stay in budget now, which I will do. I've got too much budget left now and so little time to use it. lol
The last month or so there have been some fantastic bargains and freebies ................ too good to miss.
My NSD's are few and far between now.

Jane - you make me laugh - thanks.

Breakfast - I'm having Kallo corncakes with cheese-spread, hubby will have the grilled grapefruit.
Fish, chips and peas for main meal.

We might try the free Spam Fritters tomorrow?? I like grilled Spam sandwiches, but have bad memories of Spam Fritters from the "chippy" - always full of grease. yuk
I wonder if I can do them in the oven?? I'll check later.

Sainsbury's and Asda today and possibly Tesco.
Heinz 5 Beanz are now 50p in Asda, hope the extra 35p's come off rest of shop (85p coupon value). Looking for the 14p tins of sweetcorn in Sainsbury's.

BTW, the tinned pear crumble was really nice, had it with last tin of custard.

RS - chicken fajitas? Quick and easy.. and probably something else for the next day given that's quite a bit of chicken left.

Lynsey, well you have done well budget wise, would have been interesting to see how much the food you got was worth at full price!

I'm looking forward to next year when my backlog of food has gone and I'm down to buying just what I need for whatever recipes I'm doing. I was still overspending a bit at times at the beginning of this year as well so next year will be more realistic, will then be able to see what my budget should be but probably still shouldn't need to spend more £50-£60 ish a month for a fairly good diet.

Has anyone on here cleared their cupboards on this challenge?

Not my cupboards but I did clear my freezer. It was actually very scary. I'm not kidding. I was really out of sorts and shopping was costing me double nearly as I didn't have my bargains in the freezer to work into my meal plans.

It was incredibly satisfying though to defrost and start a fresh with new bargains and I'm much more organised about what I buy now. :)

The garage supplies are 2/3 depleted but the pantry is another matter. I'm working my way through it steadily and I'm guessing around Jan/Feb all my old supplies will have been used up. (thats including baking goods and herbs/spices).

I'm determined to have all fresh for 2013.

  • Well I seem to have stopped feeding my freezers, they do not seem to be emptying though, very strange. I want to try freezing some dough but never have enough room. Have some Greens Carmel in the freezer at the moment, a test otherwise I eat the whole pint in a day or so (diabetes already), so have put in little dishes and frozen, bought with MOC and reduced milk so not an extravagance. My problem now is, I have found a nearby food bank and I am now buying (with MOC) to feed the food bank. Have obtained about 30 tins of 5 Beans, have about 4 in cupboard, wnt to make a mince dish with some but have not opened 1 tin at home yet, ditto the pears, but have used a couple of tins of spam and 4 pkts Greens, several McV ginger cakes gone to food bank and plan to have some with McV cake. Even took some round to next door neighbour yesterday, given to daughter and son and gave 5 Beans and Greens vouchers to food bank too All special offers of course. MUST STOP.:o
