  • Morning all.

Lynsey I have literally put the cream in and set my alarm for 8 hours, the cream I took from the freezer was 39p whoopsied, so not a great loss if it goes wrong, my electricity is less than £1 a day, so its a saving lol, hope it goes o.k, if it does I have another tub of cream to be used.

Going to have porridge for breakie, chilli for lunch and the haddock fillet for dinner, will get additional veg to go with it.

Thanks for kit kat heads up Lynsey :)

    Hi All,
Thanks Ms Night Ryder - Clotted cream - didn't know you could make it in the SC. Can anybody advise ;-do you just put a pot in there or do you surround it with water? I've loads of frozen cream, bought it to make ice-cream when it was on offer and never got around to it. I suppose the whey that is left will be buttermilk - good in Soda Bread. I can see a baking day looming tomorrow.

Today's mystery unlabled plastic bag from the freezer:- well actually two, the first one is easy - a couple of tablespoons of diced pepper or chilli. Second one not so easy - colour yellow, heavy, solid, could be lemon curd or possibly some sort of sauce - time will tell.

I've just read the above posting on how to do it - thanks, I'll go and get a pot out of the freezer
  • Zafiro you empty the cream into the crock pot, set it to low and come back 8 hours later, no stirring, after 8 hours, leave it to cool, once cooled, use a slotted spoon to skim the cream from the top, leaving the whey, stir the cream and.consume lavishly over yummy scones with an abundance of jam lol, well I made the last bit up but that's the reciepe I googled.

Currently eating a container of pre made porridge from Mr s besides listing 21g of sugar for the whole pot, it is not very nice so I won't eat it all, I did notice on the ingredients it lists whey powder, I will have the whey left from the clotted cream, could i add to some oats? How does that work out exactly? Lol somebody help.

Ms Night Ryder - many thanks didn't realise you had to empty the cream into the SC just thought you put the pot of cream in, pot and all, stupid me.

Like the idea of scones as my mystery plastic bag is certainly lemon curd, so baking this pm for the lemon curd, scones, sponge cake or rather a sponge traybake so I can use hot lemon curd over the top of it for pudding, lemon meringue pie.

That will leave me with yolks so will have to do a flan to use them up, I'm sure I have a bit of ham somewhere in the freezer which I can use. I know I have mushrooms, toms in the fridge and I can use the peppers (mystery pack from this am). Soda bread made with the whey from the clotted cream will be tomorrow after the clotted cream has been done. It's all coming together and best of all, nothing to put back in the freezer.

Really looking forward to scones with clotted cream and lemon curd - mega treat for tomorrow

There was a big car crash and road was closed for a bit so my mother turned up 3 hrs late.

We just nipped off to Waitrose. I did well - only 10 of my 29 items were full price, I got loads of stuff on offer and quite a few reduced things too. Snapped up Ecover washing powder and fabric conditioner on offer thanks Kirri :T Bought some mini quiches at the deli for OH reduced to 92 p from 1.49 - not bad for salmon and watercress :D Duchy Originals old ruby ale is on offer as are Higgidy pies, Waitrose organic longlife beetroot and Maille mustards.
  • Hey guys

Edwardia waitrose have reduced their duchy organic muffins to 89p they are huge.

    Went over budget by £1.28

Went to waitrose for veg, git spinach, peas and spring onions and carrots, sprouts and broccoli reduced to 79p no offers, a pack of sandwich pittas 29p reduced and the standard 5 beans with coupon LOL £1.52 to pay.

Mr t's bag of snack grapes 15p,.a pack of yogurt tubes £1 chocka pudding 69p, 5 beans, nectrines 55p, a pack of kit kats, only 5 2 finger ones and a big half prices hellmans mayo £4.82 to pay, used 2 coupons.

They clotted cream is done, dunno what I was expecting, it burnt slightly at the bottom and just seemed to be a floating bit of cream in water, but i have gone back 15 mins after stopping it and it seems to be now rising and the texture is the same as on top a little, just waiting for it to completely cool, which I find in the crock pot takes ages, tempted to put the pot in some cold water, but don't want to force it, it might ruin it, hence why I bought the chocka puds.

Need to decide what to have with the haddock fillets, maybe a little of all the veg, no carbs since I'm having pudding.

Will be back later to tell you results of Clotted cream, will leave it on for 6-7 hours instead of 8 next time, the house smells all creamy yum.

When I lived in Canada I used to pig out on blueberry muffins :D but now I have diabetes I avoid carbs. Have to admit I didn't notice them Ms-Night_Ryder but I got OH a big organic baguette (99p). He liked the Tesco one (80p) but the Sainsbury's organic baguettes must be great as they are always always sold out when I get there

Thought of you as I walked past the clotted cream ;)

If you have a myWaitrose card you get Waitrose Kitchen magazine (1.20) free. The latest one has lots of baking recipes so I gave it to my mother. I did rip out an interesting looking recipe for bacon-wrapped butternut squash however.

IN freezer: more Higgidy pies  (I'm thinking of nicknaming my husband Higgidy), org chicken thighs, org unsmoked back bacon.

IN cupboard: soupe de poissons, rouille, mustards, preserved lemons.

    Hi all,

I feel so dreadful for the family of April Jones. The torment would be beyond awful. My kids are around her age so I can empathise a tiny tiny bit. Pray God please let them find her alive.

I feel silly talking about food with that going on but tonight I am cooking stuffed homemade chicken breasts (filled with my own receipe chilli / cheese / peppers combo) and wrapped in bacon. They are ginormous so maybe saving a bit for salad tomorrow.

The boys have had lidl chicken kievs, homefries, sweetcorn and minted peas. Nearly ended up feeling my son's friend too as he came round ofter school and they were trying to talk me into letting him stay for tea. Next week maybe when I feel well again.

Freezer still full and got to squeeze in very large chicken as not had any chance to cook it this week! Making moussaka tomorrow with some of the 900g of mince still in my fridge that needs using with something but worried about making too many freezer meals as the room is a problem! Really need not to be tempted with the butchers mega generous offers - but I won't...!

I have been ill for a few days now but today my voice is returning which is good but not feeling fantastic. Here is hoping a good night tonight will fix me more.

    NSD yesterday and today :)
    3 kids(DS1 6 Nov, DS2 8 Feb, DS3 24 Dec) a hubby and two cats - I love to save every penny I can!

Evening all, Lidl Kievs were not great. Tried, but won't buy again.

    Freebies today:
4 x Heinz 5 Beanz - having an off day. lol

Bought: (all vastly reduced to clear from Sainsbury's)
    4 x Gordon Ramsay Comic Relief Curry Sauce @ 52p = £2.08
    2 x Marinated sun-dried peppers in oil @ 57p = £1.14
    4 x FBB Flapjack Fingers @ 38p = £1.52
    4 x FBB Choc Flapjack Fingers @ 40p = £1.60
    1 x Golden Breadcrumbs @ 15p = 15p
    1 x Lemon Sorbet @ 55p = 55p
    1 x Pack Solero Lollies (3) @ 62p = 62p
Total = £7.66 and none of it needed!!!! Cheap though. lol

Took a very large box of stuff to donate and lady said to hubby, "Thank's, the teabags will do for the Coffee Morning". He told the lady is was for the people who come in during the week looking for food. She looked unsure and so was hubby.
We'll need to check this out, they do help disabled members, but we want the food to go to those without and not for Coffee Mornings. She also stated that they had a "Donation Tin" for members to donate for goods taken.
Think we'll be looking for another place to donate, but will fully check out with the Manager first. Obviously different groups need various stuff, but we don't want people to have to donate to take stuff away ................. it's meant to be a free donation ............. we'll see.

Took some fish out for tomorrow and will do in the breadcrumbs.
Hubby needs to eat the grapefruits, grilled with honey.
Got enough veg until Friday and then need bits. No more shopping tonight though.
Tomorrow I'll get the cheap Kit Kat's.
