Morning all - this morning I have just defrosted some sausages for later - at least its all a step in the right direction. I keep looking in the cupboards and thinking about the ingredients that I want to run down or use up, now its just a case of putting it into action.I'm not a failure if I don't make it, I'm a success because I :tried!0

Morning all, i nipped to tesco last night at half 9ish to get some hangers, had a nosey at the whoopsies, and ended up with 7 melons 5 galia and 2 tiny honeydew ones which i acually though we're galia's (sp?) til i cut into them but they def taste like honey dew, for 10p each, a twin pack of diced onions for 10p, 2 bags of 3 peppers for 10p each and a wee wedge of cheddar with caramlised onions for 14p, other than that i only got the hangers and light bulbs i went for
, oh and my dinner out was yummy inlaws insisted on paying so only cost us £5 for the ice cream on the way home.
We had melon for breakfast, we had about 3/4 of one, i just cut up the other 1/4 and one of the others and put it in a tub to nibble on (we all love melon but it's so expensive we don;t get it often) ds3 also had corn flakes and is now munching an apple, for a 2 year old he def has hollow legs. lunch will be gammon sandwichs with more melon, i'm about to throw a chicken cassarole in the slowcooker with the chopped onions, and the carrots and mushrooms i froze over the weekend, will serve with mash and the rest of the cauliflower.
Bit annoyed tho i found a whole tub of furry strawberrys in the back of the fridge, there only about 4 days old aswell, and 1 day past there use by i think tesco ones have went way down hill, the raspberrys i got last week went funny quickly aswell.
How nice is the weatheri got 5 loads of washing done yesterday, today i have one out and all our bedding in the machine ready to go out

This is a really good idea! I will have to get into the habit of knowing what to eat in advance and de-frosting it, but its great!
I have so much food in the freezer (out of sight, out of mind) and with my daughter's schedule running me ragged, I tend to pick something up on the way home that's quick to put together. I then wonder why my grocery outgoings are so high by the end of the month!!
I will definitely give this a try!0 -
Morning, not doing very well at the moment. More stuff seems to be going in than comeing out. i have a beef stew in the slow cooker, at least two lot will be going back into the freezer. One will be coming out again next week with a block of puff pastry that i want to use up. Dasophster that celery soup recipe sounds lovely, i think i will try that at the weekend. I like to have a pot of hm soup on standby.Grocery Challenge 24th Feb-28 Dec 2012 £2000/£1404

Hi all, hope all are well.
Been a bit busy last few days so not made an appearance. Decided to do a spring clean yesterday so the place is in a bit of a state.
At the weekend dad got me a couple of packs of the mince from Lidl so I made bolognese yesterday. That turned out really nice, I used a jar of tomato and mushroom pasta sauce from aldi that had been hanging around for a while.
Today I'm making lentil and bacon casserole. May make some of the cheesy bread that was posted a small while back, to go with it.
Need to buy veggies like onions and carrots as just used the last of um.
Right, better scoot off to finish off the lounge, take care all. xThere's a storm coming, Mr Johnson. You and your friends better batten down the hatches, because when it hits, you're all gonna wonder how you ever thought you could live so large and leave so little for the rest of us.0 -
have only been living out of freezer and cupboards lately, with the exception of buying some fruit, veg & salad stuff, but it does not seem to have made a dent - its still full. I have been taking stuff out, plumping it out when cooking, and refreezing, so thats why, plus i cook tons of lentils at once, as they take so long, to have on hand for adding to mince. My cupboards have definately gone down, but they keep getting restocked from lader, but its great to used stuff thats been there for ages.0

Afternoon all
Have taken some cod, smoked haddock, prawns and salmon out of the bottom of the freezer this morning. Am defrosting it for a fish pie tonight :-)
While sorting through to find the fish, i had a bit of a sort out, and realised just HOW much stuff i have in my freezer!!!!0 -

My cupboards are looking a bit mother hubbard at the moment - probably for the first time in years! My freezer is similarly depleted but I have enough in there to feed us comfortably until the end of the month and a bit beyond if necessary.
Yesterday I made a roast chicken dinner. I got a small (£2.45) chicken in Aldi and it was plenty for the three of us with over half left over. We had another roast dinner tonight to use up the leftovers, and there is enough chicken left to make curry tomorrow - probably only one large or two small portions though, but they will do me for lunches if I freeze them individually.
I have been making bread in the breadmaker but am going to stop for a bit because I just can't stop eating it and I can feel myself putting weight back on. When I go shopping at the beginning of June I will buy Ryvitas again, as I am much better with them.
Shoudl have been a NSD today but needed milk - at the moment the kids are drinking about 4 pints a day between them - I can't keep up with it and its really starting to annoy me.
katskorner - sorry you were ill - what a shame about missing out on all that lovely grub!!
florenceem - muffins look nice! I can't make muffins for the life of me - they always go really hard and are never sweet enough for some reason.

Just put the remains of the chicken in the freezer. The fleshy bits that is. Also made 4 small pots of chicken stock from the carcass. One of these days i will take more out than put in.Grocery Challenge 24th Feb-28 Dec 2012 £2000/£1404
