I'm eating out of the freezer and cupboards challenge

Morning.
Save Dosh - welcome to the thread, £40 is very, very tight - good luck.
Struggling with temptation?? I know it too well!! This year is supposed to be my "Control Year" and the annual budget has helped, but sometimes it's a struggle not to over-spend and grab all the bargains, even though like yourself ............... I don't need them.
Up early and off to Lidl in 40 minutes for some diced chicken breast and pick up my Brothers order, he wants 4 packs of the chicken also. We need 10 packs in total, so need to be there at opening time. lol
Toasted raisin bread again or toasted tea-cakes, freed up a little freezer space, but not much. I'll have to bag up the diced chicken or I'll not get them all in.
Not much needed today and out to a party tonight (free food). I'll be doing the maths later to work out what my budget will be to stay on track until the end of June (half-way) and try and work out where it'll be spent.
Look ok'ish weather-wise, hope it lasts.
Enjoy your weekend.

Morning all. Feeling whacked this morning, had a crappy headache last night so went to bed early then had bad pains as it's totm, so didn't sleep well at all. Ds spent the night at mam's so I may go back to bed lol.
Isn't raining at the moment, which makes a change! Still cold tho.
Not sure about meals tonight, may do savoury mince with mash. Will definitely be meal planning for next week to use up old stocks and make something a bit different.
biscuitmad - Sorry to hear you and your lo are both ill, hope you recover quickly.
Welcome to the thread Save Dosh. I know what you mean about buying ys when you don't need them. I don't feel like I've done a proper shop unless I've got at least one ys item in my basket.
Agree with everyone about getting keep from working kids. Put your foot down RS! It will save arguments in the end I feel. There's a storm coming, Mr Johnson. You and your friends better batten down the hatches, because when it hits, you're all gonna wonder how you ever thought you could live so large and leave so little for the rest of us.0 -
Lidl was crazy this morning, got there at 7.59am and at least a dozen waiting for the doors to open. lol
Also customers waiting in their cars until the doors opened - the power of cheap chicken.
Got what I wanted and just bought the 6 packs, nothing else, though was tempted by both the choc raisins AND the fudge.
£8.04 spent and hope that's it for the day and the week. Still things needed, but that's for next week now.
Budget for next week £25'ish.

Just rang the folks and asked them to get me some cheap chicken if they're passing a Lidl... which translates as 'go to Lidl for me'.
Doubt they'll have any tho. Does it have anything added, like water?
RS - forgot to mention, Asda's Shades toilet roll is as good, if not better than Andrex. Can't tell the difference. You could always save a bag of the andrex and transfer the shades into it lol. Bet the kids can't tell. There's a storm coming, Mr Johnson. I'm still trying to get to Lidls today. I fancy that Kabanossi. Haven't had it before but I'm thinking it might fit nicely into a recipe I do with baked beans, bacon, mushrooms etc. All heated in a casserole with the sliced sausage and some worcester sauce and then piled high into jacket potatoes. ( A little brown sugar gives it the edge too but is a bit naughty :shhh: )
Hope all that are poorly will start to feel better soon.
Saving dosh - I'm a little like you and Lipstick. I need to hold back a bit with the YS for a week or two. Only absolutely can't leave on the shelf bargains for me till then.
I was thinking what Lynsey was saying about not being able to afford the stock piling so much on her budget and having to pick and choose.
I'm realising that I too need to be careful over what I can afford to rush and buy up rather than just thinking 'its a bargain, grab loads for the future months.'
As much as I would like to my budget doesn't allow for it in EVERYTHING.I'm overspending even if saving money.
The other problem is that I just might be a bit more greedy when it comes to coffee and things when there is a lot in. I limited myself somewhat before. Ridiculous as this might sound to some, coffee is dear and I try to spread it out by having water (which is good for me) and tea, which I get cheaper, so that I don't guts all the coffee.
I like mine quite strong and we get through rather a lot, even with only 3 of us liking it.
I've pulled a pork joint out of the freezer for tomorrow (one of my treasure finds this week when I rummaged) and we're having the reduced 'best' morrisons sausages in a toad in the hole tonight with mash and green beans/carrots and thick, thick gravy.
Recovering - do you ever have a strop with the kids and say 'thats it, I'm leaving home!' I would.
Hope you get paid soon. That will make it all seem a bit better.AUGUST GROCERY CHALLENGE £115.93/ £250

Old habit are hard to break! I have budgeted for one AF order a month and as May is coming up have started getting twitchy about ordering. There is still no room though! Must remember this and not put anything in the basket.....
On the subject of children paying their way, they are going to have to make their own way in the world at some point and we probably aren't doing them any favours if we protect them too much from harsh realities."A thousand candles can be lit from a single candle without shortening the life of that candle."
I still am Puddleglum - phew!0 -

So true. The last couple of days I've been putting stuff in the basket then taking it out.Maybe twice a day I do this. I've resisted so far tho, even with the chance of a box of crisps for 49p!

Now AF, they really are the answer to my prayers and cause of my troubles. I have such an amazing array of stuff, but i have TOO MUCH, what i do with AF now is, i put things in my basket and over the weeks loads of it goes oos, and i then see whats left, its usually not worth putting an order in. I am also trying not to buy stuff if i already have it. Like i have a ton of bread mixes, a bread maker and yet i still buy ys bread, so no more of that this month. Thank god them 49p crisps are oos0

florenceem, kabanossi is lovely added to a chicken and tomato dish (like you would chorizo) and also with pasta and a sauce with veggies in it - my kids love that.3 kids(DS1 6 Nov, DS2 8 Feb, DS3 24 Dec) a hubby and two cats - I love to save every penny I can!

Change of food plans - checked one of the freezers today to see where I could fit it the chicken and lo-and-behold one of the drawers wasn't fully close and some food at the front was half-defrosted!!!
One pack of frying steak and a pack of turkey breast steaks, so took them out and cooked the steak (cut up in pieces) - so steak in gravy tomorrow with mash. Turkey stir fry on Monday, veggie day moved to Tuesday.
Managed to get 5 packs of chicken in, so only one pack left and I'll sort that over the next few days by taking some bread out.
No Lidl next weekend as no half-price meat offer and hoping NOT to buy meat until after holiday (not guaranteed though). Need to allocate budget to non-freezer stuff where possible.
No Sainsbury's tonight and no Morries either, so happy with the weeks spend - less than expected mid-week, but around budgeted amount.
Still need eggs, been avoiding buying them and milk needed tomorrow or Monday, Bertolli also if still £1 in Morries on Monday. Need frozen sweetcorn and would like the BOGOF frozen mushrooms, but no room!!
Need to meal plan for next week, next 2 weeks if possible and stick to it as near as possible.
