I wanted to ask that as well.....
I even used to pay a very little something when I was just doing a little evening telesales whilst studying. Not because my folks needed it just because it made me learn about money in the terms of actually earning it rather than them just giving it to me! Does that make sense???
I have no idea where we are cupboard/freezer wise as I have been in bed most this week with flu and the oh has been cooking for him and the kids so who knows what they have been eating. I asked my 6 yo if daddy cooking was good and he said yes mummy, we know when it's done coz the smoke alarm tells us and daddy let's us have lots of ketchup to cover up the black bits!!!!!!0 -
Done a big shop today as its pay day, spent £24.54 in sainsbos, made a list and only got a few things not on it, like sensations on offer and some whoopsies, 5cika chicken legs 1.19 a meat feast past bake 1.39 and some pork mince 99pand a 1kg gallon joint which wasn't Ye for £4 so not bad, decided if I'm going to be at home most of this month which is likely I will us it for lunches in sandwiches etc, also went to m&s for some treats got a haddock pie ys for 1.50 also in freezer, my fridge was looking poor, but looks so much better now, have taken 2 packs of mince out of the freezer, ys lamb and lean beef.
I'm making koftas tomorrow with tzaziki and cucumber and toms in white wine vinegar, salt and pepper, its yum, I like to mix lamb and beef, although its usually only lamb, with the rest I will make a lasagna on the Sunday, brown the mince tom and assemble, i have decided to do the white sauce using philly, seen on the advert lol, using a tub of the philly I got half price, wikk get some chicken breast chunks in lidl tom, pro. 2-3 packs spent just a little half if my budget, which is fine I got loads in. May have a Chinese tonight.Lose 28lb 3/28lb

biscuitmad - sorry you've had flu - hope you are on the mend.
Flo and bm - I don't know why she doesn't pay keep - she earns decent money but is combining it with studying pharmacy so i have never pressed it. She should pay though, but whenever i mention it she gets very annoyed and says that none of her friends pay, although I know this isn't the case. Even if she paid £100 a month it would help.
I went to Aldi half an hour ago as i found that I had £10 in the bank when I checked online!! I got milk, squash, apples, tomatoes, sweetner, 50% off kebabs, sunflower spread, lemonade and the mushy peas were 8p a tin:jso I got two tins.
Now I have enough stuff for the weekend and a friend has just rung up to say he has got some meat for me from his friend who has an organic butchers on the other side of town. Every so often he brings me round some meat as a thank you for me helping him with his computer and spreadsheets, so that is a nice unexpected bonus!!
I have never heard of Kabanossi - are they like a smoked pork sausage? are they garlicky?Jane

biscuitmad - get well soon.
Jane - I feel for you at the minute, hope next weeks brings those rewards.
NSD, but took a look and nothing of interest reduced.
Spend day tomorrow though, Lidl at 8am as chicken offers go quick!!!
Groupon meal today was lovely, probably the best quality food in an Italian restaurant in ages. Expensive without a Groupon deal, but nice place for a treat.
Just snacked tonight and nothing planned for tomorrow apart from minestrone soup. lol

had our pie for dinner have to say it was yummy if i do say so myself, not going shopping this weekend don't really need anything altho i will ahve to check the milk is still ok, but i can grab one for 90p in the farm shop up teh road, gonna get stuck in with moving tomorrow and hopefully have it all done by mon/tue (it would go alot quicker if i didn't have 3 kids in tow)
i use philly (well usually value philly) to make white sauce, it's so easy you just add milk, i use it in rice dishes, in pies and on pastaDEC GC £463.67/£450

Thanks for the get well's I'm am actually starting to feel a but more with it today, although now have the hacking cough and no voice and my toddler has now got it, so I have spent the day on the sofa with her asleep on me.
Rs - obviously everyone's lives are different but if I was you I would put my foot down with your daughter (I am a fairly strict mummy though) but I was always raised to believe that if I lived under my parents roof I lived by their rules and if that meant paying keep then that's what was done!! I would tell her how much you want and why/where it goes etc, there is no way she is going to find anywhere else to stay and get home comforts on £100. And it will teach her more about budgeting her earnings for when she does fly the nest one day. Hope I haven't overstepped the mark, just my opinion and like I say I'm a strict mummy with the flu lol.
I'm off to bed now
Night all

recovering spendaholic - Your DD doesn't pay for her keep because you have never said to her - pay or you don't eat/sleep here! Quite simple rule. Jmho. I didn't take anything off my children when they were still at school but had weekend/evening jobs. However if one of them was out earning after leaving school - they were told how much their contribution to the household was. In fact - this only happened with 1 out of my 6 children - one of the boys. All the rest went to university and then went into jobs away from the area - employment situation dire where I live.
The boy who I am taking about - did decide to get a small flat/bedsit at one time - was not away from home long - found out how much it cost to live in the outside world. He came back home where it cost less/ his meals were cooked/heating was included in his keep/ someone did the shopping/ and washed/ironed his clothes!Decluttering Achieved - 2023 - 10,364 Decluttering - 2024 - 8,365 August - 0/45

Hi everyone, just discovered this thread - i would love to join, i have this month put myself on a very tight budget for the month, because i have so much stuff in freezer and cupboard and need to use it up. My grocery challenge this month is £40, i know i have enough stuff to be able to do that, but i do struggle with temptation, even ys, when i don't need them. If i can do this month, which i am doubting i can, i will be so proud, so here goes0
