Have a great holiday Lynsey - will you be visiting any supermarkets?! I always like to see what they have that is different when I travel and often bring food home..
Yes, even the local Lidl. :rotfl:
Lots of expats etc. use the Lidl in Albufeira - like being home from home!!! lol
2 large supermarkets locally and some medium ones and a massive one at both Algarve Shopping and Faro Shopping. We normally bring bits back for our son, Piri Piri sauces etc.
We are self catering and do our breakfasts and eat out in the evening - so cheap there and a 3 course meal, plus cover and a 1/2 litre of house wine can be bought for 10 euros or less - terrific value and a nice change.
Thank you again for the wishes.

^ Lol @ Lidl! It's changed a bit shop wise since I went there in the 80's!0

I've just spent an entire afternoon looking up peanut butter online. The result of this MSE dedication (addiction ?) is that I found the cheapest peanut butter, the cheapest places for foreign peanut butter, the cheapest organic peanut butter and the least carby peanut butter which turned out to be a 1.99 340g own brand Waitrose one.
I always get the Waitrose pb - its on 3 for 2 at the moment too.
Kirri - didn't know that the Maggi stuff was high calorie - must be why it tasted so nice!!
This afternoon I was in a really bad mood with ex so thought I would do some baking - made a Dutch Butter cake from the new Hairy Bikers book and it was just lovely - only problem is that there is only one slice left:o Also used up some brown bananas in a banana bread from the BeRo book - that was lovely too. Ended up just having a piece of toast for tea as I was so full!!
Have a wonderful break Lynsey!Jane

Doing well this week, bacon and cooked chicken (1/2 price lidl) used up in a pasta bake for OHs lunch. Sausages (1/2 price lidl) used for dinner last night - OH said he loved them, so will keep quiet and stock up next time the offer is in town.
Defrosted chicken tikka slices and wraps for my lunch, this may change as i may have guests in which case, a pizza out the freezer will be used instead.
Chicken (1/2 price lidl) prawns, and chorizo will make paella for dinner!
Phew, thats a lot of stock cleared in a few days!! Long may it continue!Annual Grocery Budget £364.00/£1500

Morning and thanks again for your wishes.
Just made sandwiches for plane and having toasted teacakes for breakfast - bread bin is now empty!!
bramble1 - when we get back, I'm going to start clearing some "stash", especially the old stuff!!
Quite a bit to buy next week, eggs, sugar, milk, cheese, veg etc., also need to look for veggie stuff - hope the £1'ish Quorn stuff is still on and might try in stir frys.
Looking forward to Easter, use up a joint or two and get rid of some fish - that'll clear a bit space!!

have a good time lynsey, that is a cheap meal out you should make the most of it
well my cars off to be fixed tonight, still no mot on it tho but atleast it won't fall apart on us, hoping to get it in for mot by the end of this week/start of next, then it just needs taxed, thanksfully other than being abit annoying there is no cost to me- it's hubbys company car (even tho i drive it all morning 5 days a week lol)
mil didn't bring me milk or bread, mainly because hubby didn't ask her, so i threw a loaf in the breadmaker (was abit salty i think it's the value marge so will add less salt next time) and made up a pint of milk powder which tbh i expected to go to the dogs, well the kids have drank half of it so can't be that bad.
just as i was putting dinner on last night hubby phoned and asked if i wanted to go to a bbq, well it was the weather for it, so were having last nights tea tonight so todays meal plan looks like- toast/jam sandwichs for breakfast, soup for lunch, chinese pork chops, roasties, mash, mixed veg, yokshire puddings and gravy for dinner.
has anyone tried mr's basic chicken soup? it's horrible i bought it as a sauce base but we couldn't even eat it, problem is i have a tin left any suggestions other than dog food? also do you think i could make yogurt in the slowcooker with the made up milk powder?DEC GC £463.67/£450

Have a great time Lysney, the hypermarkets in Portugal are amazing, esp if you like salt fish! Not sure if you could get it through Customs though

Morning all
Another glorious day here! Might go out in the garden this afternoon to make the Easter bonnet. Will leave bits for ds to do though of course lol. With this nice weather, and Lynsey going away I feel I could do with a good relaxing holiday. Don't think I'll get away again this year though as I need to save up for a new washer and
Will get sausages out in a mo for tea tonight with mash and veg. Dad's here fixing a shelf into my tall kitchen cupboard that I took out to fit the vacuum in, just needs moving up a bit. Will have a nice bit of space then, probably to fill up with wright's bread mixes lol.
No idea what you can do with the chicken soup quintwins, I never buy the stuff. There's a storm coming, Mr Johnson. You and your friends better batten down the hatches, because when it hits, you're all gonna wonder how you ever thought you could live so large and leave so little for the rest of us.0 -
Quintwins - I agree about the chicken soup - its vile!! I think I would give it to the school fair! Don't know if the yoghurt would work out - it might be a bit watery IYKWIM - if you added a bit more powder it might work though.
Made porridge for breakfast and tuna concoction for lunch (tuna, celery, onion, tomato, hard boiled egg, lettuce all mixed up with a bit of salad cream) with ryvitas and then pork fillet for tea. All out of the freezer/fridge/cupboards!
I put in a sausage and ham shank order with my friend (he has a friend who is a butcher) last night so that will come this weekend. I also ordered some shin beef and belly pork - hope they are nice!
Lovely day again today but I am totally freezing. I just got diagnosed with an underactive thyroid and apparantly the feeling cold is one of the symptoms. Need to move around a bit to warm up!!
Edwardia - have you looked at the low carb megastore online? It's not cheap but they sometimes have good offers - they sell all kinds of low carb stuff - the wraps are lovely. it's http://www.lowcarbmegastore.com or it might be.co.uk - try that if link doesn't work!Jane
