Thanks for the liquorice tip MrsCD, never knew that. Morries have 300g bags on offer for £1.......or did have.
Back to porridge tomorrow as I've got plenty of milk and it looks like it's getting cold.
Took pies out for lunch and some bread and some new gaps, doing quite well. Not put much in meat-wise lately, just bread and pies.
Some of you lot are embarrassingly well organised!! Well done, but not for me. I could never be that disciplined and would hate to meal plan in advance, one or two days at a time for myself. I like to have some sort of an idea, but my meals are generally less adventurous and rather simply based. Only the two of us which simplifies things I suppose.
The one thing I'm missing at the moment is fresh ham from Morries deli counter - might treat myself at the weekend. Too cold for a ham salad, but a nice ham sandwich would be nice.

Morning, meal planning is my weak point!!
No porridge, had cheese and onion on toast instead.
Pies are a must though as taken out of freezer yesterday.
Feeling better, but woke up at 4am with sore dry throat - had some hot honey and lemon and the first couple of paracetemols.
Hope all suffering are feeling better, loads seem to be suffering at the minute.
Definitely doing the soup though - BTW, carrots are only 39p per kilo in Lidl's at the moment.
Going to re-pot my tomato plants today also and plant a few more seeds.
8 weeks today for a few days break away and that will take us up to the end of the first quarter. Well on track for £250 first quarter spend (easy quarter though!!).

This is a really interesting thread !
Our fridge/freezer conked out in December (luckily before I did the Christmas shopping) so I'm still shoving bargains in the new chest freezer.
Last night I made venison stew using a pack of diced venison (recent special offer from Morrisons) and stock I made and froze from the remains of a roast partridge plus special offer/reduced carrots, shallots, celery, leeks, romano peppers, fennel with cherry tomatoes and button mushrooms added within last 15 mins.0 -
Payday!! BUT! i got underpaid and until the money is with me, I'm on a seriously tight budget.
Luckily my car passed its MOT first time, so there is no added expense there this year!
Banana for breakfast
Lunch was more HM lentil soup
Dinner is garlic and rosemary lamb burgers served with pitas and salad and a HM tatziki sauce. Making the burgers myself with reduced lamb mince from the freezer.
Will need to get mint, yoghurt and cucumber, plus peppers for tomorrow's beef and black bean stir fry for OH's dinner.
I try to plan in advance where i can but never bother with weekends as we are usually down the pub!
Going to be good and make more soup for next weeks lunches, also going to make a tea loaf tonight with store cupboard bits so that I don't need to buy any chocolate for OH's lunches.Annual Grocery Budget £364.00/£1500
Debt payments 2012 £433.270 -
Nipped in Morrisons again this morning so need to work out my final spend for January. Only soya milk and veg though.
Breakfast - hm bread toasted and cheese
Lunch - slice of hm lemon bakewell as went out in a rush
Dinner - hm quiche (made with home grown peppers and onions) and allotment pink fir potato wedges and garlic mayo (again). I've only got 1 quiche left now so might make another batch as I need some ready type meals in the freezer for days I want something quick.
I dug up a load of leeks from the allotment today (in the sleet!) and picked some sage - so will turn those into leek and smoked cheese pasties tomorrow as have all the ingredients already. 1 batch will make 6 good sized pasties so 6 separate dinners for me.0 -

Salivating at thought of leek and smoked cheese pasties..
They are lovely, one of my fave recipes! Even surprised me how tasty they are and my parents (meat eaters) have had a few batches of these after trying them! Quite cheap too as Morrisons do an oak smoked cheese for £1 ish.0 -
Those pasties do sound lovely Kirri, please post your recipe.
NSD on food today, but bought some non-budget items. Another 2 Persils for £2.19 each and a couple of free Persil washing up liquids.
On a roll with the freezers, taking out the bread day after day and spaces are appearing at last.
Pate out for pate on toast tomorrow, soup is made for lunch and possibly bacon, sausages, eggs, beans, fried bread, fried onions etc. for dinner - a calorie rush!!
Hope you lot under a cloud are feeling better, much better myself and just a horrible sore throat to get rid of.This is a really interesting thread !
Noticed on another thread about your cooking experience, hoping for some tips from you.

Second the recipe request please Kirri.
Oh gosh.. :embarasse < that's supposed to mean embarrassed.. I'll try. It has to be said that I learned more about cooking economically in Food & Nutrition lessons in school than I ever did in college.
Tip #1 then.. a good cook book helps you learn the basics and not waste expensive ingredients because it's accurate with clear instructions.
Two that I found utterly reliable are Practical Cookery by Victor Ceserani and Ronald Kinton (now in umpteenth edition) and The Dairy Book of Home Cookery by Sonia Allison from the 70s. Anytime I see it in a charity shop (it's out of print) I snap it up to pass on to younger members of my extended family.0
