Julimk, impressive list with the weights there! I freeze veg in 100g portions but that's about it! and 178 tins, wow!
Are you going to use it up or keep buying??0 -
I'm really enjoying this challenge - it's a huge eye-opener on how unnecessary it is to shop as often as i do!
So far I've made all fresh food go a lot further than I usually would. I've made a potato bake with tuna, onion, brocolli, cheese sauce, potatoes, peppers - so good, and lasted at least 4 or 5 days.
Been eating salad at work.
Currently cooking fajitas with a slightly out of date fajita kit and pork from the freezer - that will last for 2 suppers and 2 lunches hopefully!
Just baked some banana muffins with some VERY brown bananas and cupboard ingredients - they're coming to work with me tomorrow so that I don't ruin my diet.
Left to use: package rice, cous cous, pasta.
Lots of dry rice, pasta, risotto rice, spaghetti
Stuffing, tinned peas, fresh carrots (a roast?)
A few jars of curry sauce and paste
Noodles, stir fry sauce, have fresh veg for a stir fry that can stretch to a few meals
Soups
Baked beans.
That's about it! Not bad huh?6k in 2012: £4200.00/£6000.00

Thanks Kirri. I do need to use it up, as it is totally out of hand & there is no space left for any more food in the freezers!
Need to try & do a meal plan with DD, but she goes through phases of e.g. wanting to be veggie, or wanting to eat more fish etc. And then deciding that actually she wants pizza for dinner really.

178 tins - I think that's great, not only the number, but that you know what you have exacly.
Kirri, I've seen your Morrocan Stew recipe on Morries site that you recommended, but given that we're fellow veggie's and as you can see I have a stash of chick peas, so you have any other recipes that you can recommend to help me use them up?
I have started using the Supercook site that I think someone on here recommended. It's good, thanks for that.
I have used food.com (formerly recipezaar) for a many years, but I love trying new recipes so I'm always on the look out for recommendations.0 -

Sounds a bit like me, all the food I have, and we got a take away pizza tonight. Only cost 4.49 as we were owed 2 large pizzas as the last ones they delivered were cold. Lunch tomorrow is sorted as well - l/o pizza!!0 -
Wow...not been on here for a couple of days and had about 6 pages to read...
Well done all that are using up and VERY well done to those that are posting lists - love the wallpaper suggestion Lynsey.
I've still to do an inventory of my freezer - might get round to it this weekend but I've been doing quite well at the using up bit...
Had toad in the hole with a pack of sausages tonight, last night was using up some scraps from the turkey carcass in a pasta bake made with Campbells soup. Also took out a beef casserole meal for me tomnorrow when DS1 and 2 aren't here. Got a fair few mdeals in there that need using up - if ohnly to get the containers back into circulation!!Anywhere is within walking distance - if you have the time!!0 -

Must be hard with kids these days, so much more choice available, though growing up in the 70's we just all had what hm meal we were given and we left what we didn't like!canspendnomore wrote: »Kirri, I've seen your Morrocan Stew recipe on Morries site that you recommended, but given that we're fellow veggie's and as you can see I have a stash of chick peas, so you have any other recipes that you can recommend to help me use them up?
Ah a fellow veggieI have a lot of other recipes I've found in mags and put to one side to try with chickpeas but haven't given them a go yet so not sure which will be good - things like Indian/Moroccan dishes mainly as they seem to have the best use of flavours. Or you could do things like burgers or houmous?
Trixie, real eye opener for me too on how little I need to buy each week.. making more effort to use what I have has massively reduced my monthly spend so far as well!
Tonight (I left the celeriac till tomorrow) I had cold Quorn roast slices and roast potatoes/peas, both from allotment.0 -
Back from Scotland and back on the challenge! I have come home with goodies, a lasagne, a quiche, bacon, cheesecake and other bits.
Stew ingredients in the slow cooker for tomorrow and lunches are made.
Depending on the lidl offers, I may not shop this weekend!
