Personally I think the only way to do strawberries is fresh. Raspberry freeze very well though. When I do a waitrose shop I do it on ocado website that way you can just pick out the bargains and get free or 99p delivery slot.

    Vanilla sponge sounds yummy!

    HHx

i never buy frozen strawberrys but my kids decided they wanted strawberry milk shakes a few weeks back, but starwberrys are so expensive now we thought this was a godo idea but there far to bland :(

I use the Ocado site too and try and wait for free delivery slots, saves on petrol and having to go out! Have you worked out how often they come along? I got one just before New Year but is it pot luck/random normally?

I use frozen strawberries in smoothies only. I wouldn't buy them though, mine were left over from the allotment though most were turned into syrup or jam from fresh.

If you have a garden you could plant some of your own? Home grown ones are SO sweet. Strawberry plants put out so many runners so if you know anyone who has a plant I am sure they would be willing to give you some runners for free (or are probably cheapish £1 ish per plant to buy).

I think I might have to join you guys for the sake of (A) my diet - best to get the excess food out the house so that I can start afresh and (B) to lighten the load when it comes to moving house, possibly in about a month. I don't have too much food in my cupboards, it might take me a while to get through the jars of sauces I have though.

They do better in the ground.. they are so easy they look after themselves then - not that I want to add to people's freezer stocks!!

£1.57 spend so far today on a little veg, peas and lemon juice. Possibly Sainsbury's later, but maybe not. Aiming for a NSD tomorrow though. I'll try and keep Saturday spending to a minimum and that would round off a decent week (£20 total earmarked and should be well under).
Talking about growing things. I started the tomatoes off the other day and I planted some garlic early December which is growing well.
Spring onions will also be planted and I've got beans to do in April. Maybe one or two other things??

I can't wait to get growing again! If I can get down the allotment I still have celeriac, parsnips, artichokes, sprouting broccoli and rocket to pick. Most of my freezer stash is veg from the summer...

Had NSD every day so far as it's been too horrible weather to bother going out!

Breakfast - orange juice & cereal again, probably another 2 portions left...

Lunch - cheese & crispbreads - finished off 1 pack yay! Got another pack half eaten though so that's another 2 lunches..

Dinner - will be the rest of the cauli cheese to cook, again with hm bread

I've found a great recipe in the Waitrose magazine for apple tart with hazelnut frangipan - that will use up some slightly going soft apples, the remains of the apricot jam I was wondering what to do with, some hazelnuts in shells I got over Christmas, some of the free eggs and butter/sugar/flour I have in my stocks. Will make it in the next couple of days.

I spent ALOT of money today! £17 in Lidl - all the offers they didn't have last week they had this week! So stocked up on bits and bobs.

Then spent £13.98 in sainsburys - £30.98!!! But i got a whole chicken for £1.25 and another just cook chicken dish for £2.50 instead of £5.00 I really won't need to spend much else this month as our total dinners must be around the 25 mark. Can't fit anything in the freezer again so running that down once more.

Made sausages tonight, Will have l/o in a salad for dinner tomorrow as am traveling up to scotland and determined to have a NSD. And took out l/o cottage pie for my lunch. Breakfast will be a NOM yoghurt - they are so tasty!

    Morning.
Never ventured out last night, so only the £1.57 spent yesterday.
I was looking at my "stash" of non-frozen stuff yesterday and I'm going to sort out today and see where I'm weak and may need to target for bargains or stock up. Got enough veg/sunflower oil (thanks to Flora and ASDA) to last for months. Bertolli should last the month and sugar until the end of Feb. Tea bags for the rest of 2012 I think, but I drink loads of coffee and maybe only 2 or 3 months left. Tinned tomatoes, probably 4-6 months and same with Dallaglios/Saclas (just gave lots away also!!). Got enough pasta to last a few months also, same with rice. Stock cubes should last a while.
I think I'll need ketchup soon and I like Heinz (Morries have an offer on) and little things like vinegar, mixed herbs, tomato puree (cheap anyway).

Sitting pretty really, thanks to all the hard work last year and just need to top up for a while and be as frugal as possible in the 1st quarter. Coupons are starting to come through (to those who use coupons), hoping for some great freebies like last year.

Snacking today really. Never had the stir fry, so probably today. Tomorrow I going to get rid of some long term "bits" out of the frezzer, like mini scotch eggs, onion rings etc, and make a mini buffet. It won't clear much space, but it'll get rid of some odd bits and bobs!!
