thanks nancy we've only just got over a horrible tummy bug now we have have the cold it seems to be pretty constant at the mo but we'll live, i think it's with the kids being in school you know they bring everything home, hopefully by next eyar we'll be immune to most things lol

still havent been out, breakfast was porridge, lunch is more pasta for the kids (i opened a jar of sauce so might aswell use it) i'm gonna have a pitta was gonna do tuna but now i'm thinking cheese and onion instead of opening a tin as i won't be eating at home in the next few days so it won't be used, dinner is sausage casarole and mash and green beans all from the freezer/cupboard sausage casarole is the only packet mix i buy mines just never as nice

just remebered i had leftover fishfingers and beans for the kids so there having that, i'll freeze the sauce

Going to lidl today, but have spending limit of £10 to make the most of offers. As we've not much room in the freezer but, since january is the long month where we are usually skint this will be fine. As i will probably restart the challenge on the first i think! But still eating bits out the freezer if possible, Today the last of the burgers will be eaten, I got the whoopised at 99p BOGOF and they are waitrose ones and lovely! although i will have quorn as am on a diet!! Stew for slow cooker tomorrow, the beef is also coming out the freezer. and all other meals are from bits we've got in, pancakes, bagels etc.

Need some veggies, and fancy chicken one night in the week.

Well done to poster who managed to empty thier freezer- am looking forward to the day I see the back of mine!! :rotfl:
Need to get back into this challenge as 2012 approaches- I find the more food I have in the more I seem to waste! Having said that I managed a chinese from store cupboards and freezer (whoopsied but posh chicken!) but the egg fried rice I attempted turned out a bit of a soggy disaster so a lot of that got binned!!
Mainly cupboards full of rice/noodles/pasta (lots!) etc.. tinned beans/tomatoes/pasta sauces (from back when they were 20 p at mr t/s - need to check date on them actually!)
Freezer got 2 loaves of bread some mince, 1 pack of turkey, a pizza , chips and about 14 fishcakes!! oh and some quorn burgers and quorn pieces which only I like! will probably use most of that up in the run up to xmas and make a big chilli from the mince to then go back in the freezer again!
Thinking about doing a Lidl shop once we start running down as the prices definitely seem cheaper for better quality .
Got one more shop coming in the next couple of weeks then gonna see how long we can last!

Also am aiming for £110 pm food shop in 2012 there are 2 of us to feed and I know food shopping has gone up quite a bit but am hoping it is possible!! :)
  • Thanks we were successful and cleared the frezzer and all stocks but now we are shopping about hoping to get reduced items and a couple of chistmas goodies, as on the lead up to possible cold weather it's nice to have just a few days supplies.

Hey guys, was just thinking for 2012, shall we turn this into a proper challenge, where everybody states how many days for the month they pledge to use each month? like grocery and £10 a day challenge etc?

Only used chips from freezer today, had an apple for brekkie, oh yes and a ham and guyere cheese puff thing whoopsied tf, from freezer and the chips, for dinner slow cooked a gammon then picked at that, was auditing tonight, so while waiting for a film to start, i had a cheese burger in wimpy. mind you it was only the cheese burger but was tempted to get chips.

Tommorow, only veg and bacon slices from the freezer and risotto rice from cupboard will be used.

Horse chestnuts  are poisonous - also know as conkers

The ones that are edible are called sweet chestnuts

    Hello everybody,

I am still slowly trying to use up my food "stock". In making the food ingredients more tasty e.g. soup, my recipes take several days to have. I have some ideas for Christmas from what I have already, so more acquiring this time of year will not add to my existing "stock".

ms_night_ryder - I'd be interested to see ideas for a 2012 "proper challenge".
