So, are there any benefits to look forward to when I turn 50?

You used to be able to get cheap coach fares. However when National Express realised I was approaching 50 they cancelled the scheme.
  • I have to be honest, being over 50 does not entitle you to anything, in fact they keep putting up the retirement age (was 60, then 65, now 66)so I reckon I will be 85 when I retire. Over 60s used to get free bus pass and free prescriptions, but not any more. :o

So, no, there is nothing good to look forward to when you reach 50
KEEP CALM AND keep taking the tablets :cool2:

Over 60s do get free prescriptions (even in England!).
Free bus passes are available to anyone who has reached state retirement age (= age for women to receive state pension) - that's a national scheme. (Well the only cost can be the photos you need to provide.)

Where do you live if these are not available to those achieving the age required.

When my parents got their bus passes, they wouldn't accept the photos they took with them. The woman in the office took the photos there and then and downloaded them into the computer. They are dreadful photos but were free!

    I've been Money Tipped!
When I meant benefits I didn't mean as in what can I scrounge off the state benefits,

Sorry, should have worded it differently, I perhaps should have said what discounts etc can you get when you hit that age. :)

The benefits of not having to deal with Tampax and PMT every month. Free breast-screening every 3 years. Down here we have over 50's zumba classes ("Zumba Gold" !) and Gentle Yoga (less strain = less need for Tena Lady).

    Have a great birthday
