Why were some stores taking their crimbo decorations down last night?

All stores are shut tomorrow and most are shut boxing day. During which time the stores will be alarmed. Since the fridges and air conditioning are not turned off there will be a certain amount of air movement which will move the decorations thus setting off the alarms....this means that the decorations have to be removed prior to the closure fo the store. When this is done is obviously up to each individual store (we did ours in the early hours of this morning hence the reason I am now home and not at work) but most people want to be out earlier rather than later.

Why doesn't that apply when you are closed normally? ie at night?

And why the change of avatar? Is your Christmas bonus that good? ;)

Many stores are open 24/7 and I also expect no one wants to risk a call out over Xmas.

As FloFlo has said alot of stores are open 24/7 and those that arent still have a night crew to fill the store.

Change of avatar.....no xmas bonus this year due to excessive refunds:D....just fancied a change really.

  • As well as the decorations I'd imagine that a lot of the large advertising signs hung from the ceiling with wire would have to be taken down. Many a time I've been in store and seen them swinging back and forth quite vigorously presumably due the the air conditioning.
  • Hmm...what time to go to Tesco today. I want to get there in time for their major reductions, but also want to get there before everything sells out. My local seems to have misjudged their stock order levels, as they keep running out of things. Might have to go further afield for my reductions - best day of the year, this, as all supermarkets have to clear out their fresh stuff and stuff that goes out of date over the next two days. :D I have a large freezer. Might pop to the local Morrisons, Asda and Sainsbury's too.
In a rut? Can't get out? Don't know why?
It's time to make that change.

  • Thanx Spa, that makes more sense than some of my ideas!!!

All my local stores have no meat!!! No steak, chops, barely any mince, just some value stuff. My mum told me that the nearest ran out of turkeys yesterday! My OH reckons deliveries cudn't come cz'v the weather of the planes (He's a bit nuts 2!)

Does any1 know the real reason?
I'm getting older, and lifes getting harder!

    Hi Guys,

Many offers end on 24/12 & 26/12, does anyone know if these OOD SEL's will still be on display come 8am on 27/12 when they next open after the Xmas holiday, or will they be changed prior to opening?
  • I'm hoping any of you experts can help me.

I went into a store this morning and saw the label for the W810i mobile phone(£169.xx or £147.xx when you spend £40 or more in store).

Luckily they had it in stock so I bought one, and as I had spent £40 in store, I got charged £149.xx instead of £147.xx.

Went to CS, the lady said that she would refund me the difference. Pointed out the policy on the wall behind her, and she told me "You're not going to get the phone for free!". She said I could speak to a manager but had to wait about 15 minutes as he was in a meeting.

He finally came, and told me the same thing, that I would only get the difference as there were signs all over the store saying £20 off, so the label was a misprint.

Is there any way I can get an R&R on this, or is it just a case of 'you win some, you lose some'?

The real reason is basically because the stores sold shedloads, more infact than was predicted and therefore there is none left!!
