Viruses don't just 'happen'. If you've been infected 10 times, then someone is your house is repeatedly frequenting sites that harbour infections. Is your daughter perhaps downloading/sharing music or video files? That's the most common source of infection among teenagers. No free lunch, and no free laptop0

I have also had this Vista Security 2012 virus twice yesterday. I knew it was a scam as it started the virus scan straight away and then told me I hat to pay to remove it. I couldn't do anything on the laptop at all. I then took my laptop to Comet and the lovely man spent more than an hour finding the virus and removing it. I had Microsoft Security Essentials on laptop which I found out about on this site, but he said that was not a real virus scanner and removed it. I chose to purchase Nortons Internet Security Performance Pack 2012, but when I came home and tried to install it, it would not recognise anything in the dvd drive, not even a CD or DVD and then I had a message saying update.exe was asking permission to run, to which I said no and yet the fake vista 2012 ran again, so I went back to Comet and again the same man helped me. So i am back and have installed nortons and the updates and have my fingers crossed! Tho I have to defend the OP and say that I too was not on any weird site, neither did I download anything, i was only on this site and ebay, but am now nervous of it happening again:( So, although the same problems may arise, it is thanks to the help of people on here that problems can be resolved, regardless of how many times they arise.0

In the same way "The lovely man at Comet" says that MSE is not a real virus scanner, I would suggest that he is not a real PC tech, but a salesman who has sold you a Norton product and presumably taken his commission for the sale
.

I know they are there to make a sale, but it was my choice to buy it, he didn't force it on me.0

Does the same 'lovely man' only rate AV programs that pay him the most commission then (that'll be Norton and McAfee then)? Take Norton back and complain-you have been connned in a very cynical fashion. No free lunch, and no free laptop0

But he sold you something that you didn't need. MSE is a real AV program, one of the best rated free ones, along with Avast and Avira.
Strange that he didn't suggest them...No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -
Didn't stop this damn vista virus tho lol! I've heard the free AV's don't have the newest updates.
I have it now tho, so hope it looks after my laptop as i've hated the last 24 hours:(0 -
No AV program is 100% effective, MSE is certainly better than a number of the paid-for ones.No free lunch, and no free laptop0
