Hi, I got this same infection about an hour ago and followed the bleeping computer guide posted above.
I had to save the Rkill link onto a CD from a clean computer and ran it from there. Have you tried this? I couldn't get anything to work from the infected computer!!
Good Luck0 -
we only have a net book, could it be done on a usb? daughter is helping me and she knows how these work.0

Just wanted to say a big thank you for all the help. I am back on the laptop now... phew! without your help I couldn`t have done it (also don`t know how we would have managed without the little netbook didn`t get to be till nearly 2am and have done a bit this morning)
Did the Secunia scan and there were 12 items, they are all sorted and its showing 100%. I`m just running an avast scan now.
Is there anything else I should do? also as I`m so rubbish at all this stuff please can anyone tell me what I should be doing weekly / daily / monthly just so nothing like this happens again. All really I have running is the Avast (I think!)
Once again thank you so much for helping me on a Saturday evening when you most probably had other things to do.0 -

You may want to look at using the following:
Sandboxie http://www.sandboxie.com/
Norton DNS http://nortondns.com/
Hope that offers some help?0 -

No disrespect, but youve been on this forum with similar issues probably 10 times now, if not more.
Every time you ask the same question and yet everytime you get infected.
Anyways, as someone else has just posted youd be far better putting SANDBOXIE on all the computers in the house.:idea:0 -
aliEnRIK, I know you have hepled me a lot over the past few years and I am very grateful to you and everyone who spares the time to reply to me. I am the first to hold my hand up and say despite everyones help I don`t have a clue most of the time what I am actually doing and if I`m doing it right or wrong! and as long as the computer is working (but most probably very wrong of me) I just carry on.
What happened yesterday I really don`t know, one minute it was ok then it all went wrong...whatever had happened I did`nt have the knowledge to try to know even where to start to sort it out. (this virus also happened to someone else as well not just me)
I have now put Sandboxie on (hope I have done it right but even after reading all the info I don`t really understand it) and i don`t really know what I have to do with it if anything, sorry! its just me (give me a tin of paint and roll of wallpaper and I can perform a miracle but computers I just can`t begin to explain how nervous and out of my depth they make me feel when they go wrong or when I need to install stuff that has me baffled)
I am so very grateful to everyone on the forum who takes time to help and advise me...and I know I`ll be back again soon with some other kind of `daft` question. I know virus`s happen but I`m still unsure what else I can do to try and make sure it doesn`t happen again. My husband can`t even find the computer on switch and I rely on my 14 year old daughter to help as best she can. She is going to do ICT GCSE starting in September so may be able to help a bit more with the basic stuff I find so hard.
It must be so easy when you know and understand what you are doing. Sorry! I`m a bit of a pain its not intentional.
Please can I ask a question - I did all the updates and downloads etc as Secunia PSI requested, but everything has moved round on the computer screen. My fav`s are now on the RHS and I have to click a little star to get them, I have lost Google search box from top RH corner of screen and the bar across the top of the screen has more or less disappeared all it shows is the sites I have open (which used to be across the bottom) is this now how it should be or is there any way I can get it back. Think I had Explorer 8 and now its 9 does this make a difference. Thank you x0
