This is nice too but It doesn't look like it'll record from DVD/TV Etc
http://www.3wisemonkeys.co.uk/proddet.jsp?id=1436&cat=10Price:£169.99 inc VATThis one has a SEVEN inch screen! The Shinco PMP-1700 is one of the greatest media players available. One of the best features of this player is its ability to play just about every format including DVD/VOB files, DivX/Xvid, VCD, MPEG 1,2 & 4, MP3, WMA, OGG, JPEG and more. With this player there is no faffing around having to convert movies or music from one format to another ... just pop it on to the PMP1700 and play!
Going away? Then this is THE ideal player for you... dont bother with CDs, DVDs etc. The built in 40GB drive will allow you to fit around 50 - 60 full length DivX movies on to the hard disc or 5,000 songs (around 500 albums!). With twin headphone jacks built in, the player can also be shared with your partner for twin private listening and viewing bliss! Of course you can also use the stereo speakers that are integrated in to the unit if privacy isn't necessary.
With the SD/MMC/MS memory card reader and Compact Flash memory card reader built in to this portable media centre you can pop the memory card out of your camera or camcorder and view your pictures or movies on the crisp 7 inch widescreen... if you like the pictures and need to free up some space for your camera then all you need to do is transfer the pictures from the memory card on to the PMP-1700 hard disc drive and clear the space on your memory card.
If it's a decision between this and a player with a 2-3 inch screen why is there any hesitation! If you can have a 7 inch color active matrix TFT LCD display to view your video and pictures on them why not have it!
The Shinco PMP-1700 also comes with a range of powering the player including mains power, car adapter and rechargeable battery. The rechargeable battery will give you around 2.5 hours of playback before you nede to plug in again and power up.
With it's super slimline styling, superb solid build quality and aluminium casing this isn't just a highly functional player ... it's also a beautifully built player that looks the part! The player body is approximatley the thickness of a CD case as is the screen. No matter what, this is a player that will impress.
Want to use the player at home or in your hotel room on a TV? No problem... plug the player in to your TV using the supplied cables!

The Goodmans is not a very good media player as it suffers from noticeable lipsync problems and the supplied video conversion software is very slow.
3wisemonkeys customer service leaves a lot to be desired as after 1 month they insist on you dealing with the manufacturer regarding warranty issues unlike other retailers who deal with this for you.0 -

I bought one of these fairly close to the time when this was first posted. I chose the delivery date at time of order and it was delivered on that day, think it was 19th December or something. Anyway, despite what some reviews say, it does record from TV/anything composite (yellow rca) into the line in. And it does it all very well.
My only 2 criticisms are, 1, there are 2 recording qualities when recording from line in, a higher quality vga and a lower quality qvga. Both are very good and its hard to tell the 2 apart. With that in mind you would obviously use the qvga so as not to use up too much space, but there seems to be a small bug at qvga setting. The video seems jerky. Its fine on vga. I have only done a quick test though at the moment from a dvd player so there may be better results when i play with it more. 2, other critisism is playing back divx. It seems that most divx's play back fine but some play back as if at the wrong frame rate. There are no lip sync issues but the video doesnt seem right although its watchable. I think its probably down to the way some divx's are encoded. Some divx's are encoded at 23.97fps, some at 25fps some at 30fps etc. I am not complaining though as they are all freebies.
Overall view is, good compact player. Great for on the move as could easily get 2 plus movies out of the battery. Well worth the money just as a movie player but lots of bonuses thrown in (tv recording, radio, mp3, still camera, video camera, external hd usb storage etc). And if all esle fails and you think its crap its just an expensive 30gb usb hd.
To the poster asking if it can stream movies via usb, no it can't. As soon as the usb cable is hooked up to the pc the vp6200 will only act as a external storage device.
This would be a great little machine if the hacking community wanted to start writing any homebrew software, loads of potential.0 -
Watching TV on a tiny screen is one thing but what's the image quality like when played back thru say a 32" widescreen set?0

i bought one of these but sent it back, made a review at hotukdeals and will copy and paste it here for you guys:
The Good Points:
universal worldwide charger - 110v to 250v
good sound quality - but the volume is low, and would be too low to use on a plane without some noise reduction in place, but still probably low....
Great quality lcd screen
Good build quality of the outer casing
30GB hard drive
Battery life seems long enough compared to some of the other brands out there....
Comes with most accessories required, including a nice case
Stereo internal speakers
The Bad Points:
Battery takes 5 hrs to fully charge - and the battery is built-in so it cannot be changed so easily if it dies in the future or if you wanted to take a spare with you
Max volume is not that loud
Buttons are poor and cheap, especially the joystick
Firmware [on-board software] is rubbish. I have had it crash 3 times within 2 hours of playing with it on the first day of having it. If I switch the unit off and switch it back on half the items reset, for example if I go to record video it is always on video camera record, then I have to go into the menu and change it to line-in to record the tv.... after switching it off and back on it will reset back to video camera.....
No Firmware updates that I can find since the product was released a year ago
640 resolution recording is only at 15fps
No scheduled recording or infra red beam to control the recordings....
No remote control like the archos units.....
For the price however I will give this a 6 out of 10...........
I bought the archos av500 from tesco, as they were clearing them out for £175...... which is slightly better..... and has firmware updates for it....0 -
Received mine this morning.Have it plugged in charging up.
I wish these manufacturers would put in a proper instruction manual, instead of this pdf .I would rather have a booklet in front of me instead of keep going to look at the pdf.And no i am not going to print all those pages off.0 -
Also received mine this morning, bang on the date they promised! Currently recording a movie I previously saved on my Aldi PVR thingy and looks good, although the picture looks a bit stretched, but ok. I just plugged the RWY cable into the back of the pvr although I did fiddle around a bit until I managed to change from "camera" record to "line".
How can anyone complain about this piece of kit for the price?0
