Cheapest SKY Multiroom Option?

I'm looking for the cheapest way to get sky+ into my daughters bedroom.
She has just been gifted an old tv by a friend and would like to be able to watch sky on it.
She needs sky+ though as she works shifts so needs to catch up on her fave tv as and when she's home.
And a plus point for me is it'll also free up loads of space on my box in the lounge;)
Current set-up:
sky+HD - lounge
sky+ - upstairs (son's room)
sky - our bedroom
I know I could ring sky and just ask for another multiroom but they want to charge full whack for the extra box and then some for set-up.
I have seen loads of sky+ boxes on ebay for much less, could I get one of these and install myself as a cheaper option or would sky be against this?
thanks

The answer is yes you can.
Have you already got an Octo LNB?
All the boxes will have to be hooked up to a telephone line, and you'll need a viewing card from Sky for the new box. That gum you like is coming back in style.0 -

Sorry I don't know what an Octo LNB is.
Will the viewing card be included in the cost for the extra multiroom? £10 I think?
Do I need special cable to connect dish to sky+ box?0 -
Octo LNB = 8 way LNB. A sky+ needs 2 feeds a sky box needs 1. You have 5 currently so either have a 6 way lnb or 8. Or have a second dish.:footie:
Regular savers earn 6% interest (HSBC, First Direct, M&S)
Loans cost 2.9% per year (Nationwide) = FREE money.

No idea about the viewing card, send 'em an email.
You'll need satellite grade coax cable and four F connectors to hook up to the dish and STB. Shotgun cable is best if the run is not horrendously long.
If you are fitting a new LNB chances are the dish will need realigning, so you'll need to get a fitter in.That gum you like is coming back in style.0 -
I just rang sky and explained what I was after, The chap was very helpful and sorted it.
They have an offer on for a free skyHD box with free installation and free multiroom for the first 3 months.
He said we could order that and fit the new free HD box in my son's room and request that the sky+ box in my sons room be moved to my daughters room, that'll use up the free installation.
Then when the engineer has left we simply swap the boxes over:
New set-up:
lounge - sky+HD
son's room - sky+
our bedroom - new free HD box (sell our old box on Ebay)
daughter's bedroom - sky+ box bought from Ebay

Not sure if I have put this post in the correct section.
I am aware that you must have all multiroom sky boxes connected to a phone line. But you dont need to have your main sky box connected to a phone line after 12 months.
Therefore is it possible to give your main sky box to someone else to use in another address? Sky have no way of telling that the box is at another address.
I was thinking of giving my parents my main sky box then I would use my multiroom box as my main box.
Cant find anyone else who has done this.
sounds simple.0 -

You have been misinformed.
Read the terms and conditions of Sky Multiroom - all boxes must be connected to the same fixed phone line for the duration of the multiroom subscription and that includes the "main" box after the initial 12 month contracted period.
The reason for this is because of the exact deception that you wish to engage in. Sky periodically send a signal to the boxes on the account asking them to phone home. If a box fails to respond then they can bill you for two full subscriptions.0 -
I have had sky in my home for 9 years. When my first box was installed the engineer connected the phone line to the box. As soon as he left I disconnected it.
For 9 years I have not had a letter from sky. I have had multiroom for 3 months now. The multiroom box IS connected to a phone line. I am going to give my father my main sky hd box and move my multiroom box downstairs, to use as my main box.
I have spoken to sky engineers about this today, they tell me that sky do not ask for a call back on the main box.
This method has got to be worth a shot. What can anyone lose out of it. If sky send out a warning letter, all you do is abandon the plan and plug it back into your own phoneline. And tell the old man to pay for his own tv viewing.

Simple.
The engineer you spoke to is either imaginary, or a complete moron. I've actually seen my main box performing its callback.0 -
My only skybox was installed in 2002. I left the phone line connected to it for 1 month, then disconnected it and its never been plugged into a phone line since. Sky have never contacted me about it.0
