"Me, I'll cease to continue paying into a pension, use the money to fund a BTL and sell the property come retirement time, along with my own home and live in state funded housing for the rest of my life. "

And welcome to the real world and a retirement from the Private Sector.

but again, you are quoting 2 examples of what is very few and far between.

Despite your anecdotes it doesn't change the fact that what is being reported in the press does not represent the MAJORITY of the public service.

At the end of the day I have my plans sorted whatever the outcome. Come retirement age the government will be giving me every penny I have to live on, whether that be via the so called 'gold plated' pension or state handouts.

As many have discussed within the civil service, if the government illegally change our terms and conditions they leave themselves open to civil court cases. There are a lot of people wiling to take this to the EU courts.

Me, I'll cease to continue paying into a pension, use the money to fund a BTL and sell the property come retirement time, along with my own home and live in state funded housing for the rest of my life.

Yes and alot in the Civil service are in agreement that what you can claim for in expenses in some jobs is almost unbelievable and unsubstainable plus my final salary pension was pulled from under my feet years ago .............was that also illegal ...exactly!!

How exactly is it a 'private sector ' retirement.

Plus all this real world crap. Been there, done that, worn the t-shirt, got the pensions, which had I continued to pay into it would be a damn site better pension than the one I have now from the public sector.

Everyone in the private sector had the opportunity to fight for their rights when this was happening to them. Instead they decided to bend over and take it up the ar5e, then thank their employers (many of whom fleeced their pension pots and wasted their employees contributions) for the experience.

When People in the Private Sector joined there Companies the Pension Scheme was also looked upon as part of the renumeration package. So whats the difference????
The Private Sector Final Salary Pension Schemes became unsustainable so changes had to be made that none of us liked but we had to accept these changes.
The Public Sector Final Salary Scheme is unsustainable so changes have to be made, Please tell me what is the difference??????
Stop pretending that there is not a problem with Public Sector Pensions in there current format, get real.

well said that person sums it up very well
As i said my wife earns £900 less a month than me yet weve both been paying into our schemes for roughly same time she is a teacher yet her "pot" is worth alot more than what mine is.

So how much do you pay into your pension scheme and how much does you wife pay?

What pension will your wife get and what is the projection for yours?

Please, Please, Please, Please could you enlighten us mere mortals in the private sector on how we can contribute to a better pension than one from the public sector? It’s not running in the 3:30 at Kempton is it?

Many in the private sector didn't live in the cosy little world of secure public sector jobs supported by an ever increasing dependence on the taxpayer. Ever heard the term "redundancy" - you may soon. Welcome to the club.

In spite of what's been said about bankers, much of the national debt has been predicated on a burgeoning state sector and a return to the real world of what is affordable is now necessary.

Even TB said his biggest regret was not tackling public sector reform.

After a decade living in la la land - sorry guys, the party's over - irespective of what the LibCons do. If they don't take action, interest rates will go through the roof meaning a smaller public sector.

every 3K (or less) of a womans FS public service pension would equate with a 'pot' of 100K in a private pension.

So any woman in receipt of a PS pension of 10K would have had to have in excess of 300K in a private sector pension pot to buy that same index linked anuity.

Exactly how could we have fought back? We did not have the option of depriving our children of their education. We did not have any means that we could have used that held the nation to ransom.
