No worried bearded wonder I do take on board what you have said and apologies if i offended anyone. Fingers crossed the person responsible gets put down for life.0

Hardly "quiet enjoyment".
If you reckon he's definitely guilty, then he'll likely die in clink so I'd just pack his clobber up and give it to the relatives, unless they want to pay you the rent.0 -
when did this murder happen, nothin on the news yet>
There was a murder in Perth on Thurs evening which fits the desc from the OP but surely noone would be on posting about their concern about their property less than 24 hours after a murder - would they???
It would still be a crime scene most likely at this stage (if it IS that one)0 -

They might well do so with no disrespect whatever intended.
A violent death close to you is an almighty shock, even if you are not particularly personally involved. When people are in that disturbed state, their minds do not always run along 'normal' lines - other things loom large and how do any of us know for sure what we'd do in a similar situation.
This landlord, quite apart from perhaps losing a great deal of money, is also going to have to tread carefully with tenant, criminal and libel law, bereaved family members, the practicalities of packing up someone's tragic belongings, cleaning up behind the police, and hope that another tenant will be willing to live there with the 'ghost' of a violent crime.
I suspect that faced with this potential minefield, many of us would be running round in headless chicken mode ...0 -
I would suggest that you see a specialist solicitor as soon as possible.
The last thing you need is to take an amateurish (or illegal) approach to getting your house back. If you evict him illegally or get rid of their stuff illegally then he will have recourse to the courts to sue you or he might get his family or friends to step in on his behalf.
You really have to consider your own safety here. Seriously, do not get involved - let the solicitor handle everything. That will be expensive but I don't see a way round it unfortunately.
Why assume it's a man in custody for alleged murder?Under no circumstances may any part of my postings be used, quoted, repeated, transferred or published by any third party in ANY medium outside of this website without express written permission. Thank you.0 -
plesse dont jump on me for this comment,
but in reality, what will you do with the property after this murder has been solved?
Do you think people are going to want to buy or rent this property?
I think there could be more things to worry about, than getting the tennant out of the flat.... dont be so hasty to try and get rid of the tennant at the moment... it might not have been that person, If they are on benefits, wouldnt the rent be paid right up until they are convicted? ( if guilty)
Your emotions are prob all over the place... with grieve for the person who has been murdered, and the panic mode regarding the finanical implications this could leave your family in due to the strain of funding the property..
I agree with a few posts, I honestly think you need legal advice on this, and maybe respect the person who has died, by not talking about it, as your property was their home...Work to live= not live to work0 -
Is murder covered in your landlord insurance?
Also remember the guy below, he was arrested for murder in Bristol yet it turned out not to be him but his Dutch tenant.
I don't think you can do anything till at least he is charged and remanded minimum.:exclamatiScams - Shared Equity, Shared Ownership, Newbuy, Firstbuy and Help to Buy.

I agree totally, Brit take it down bud as Dvardy said the guy was innocent.......0 -
I don't know why everyone is accusing the OP of being more interested in money than the victim. The original post only asks whether s/he has any legal obligations, it doesn't mention anything about what happens to the rent etc.COOLTRIKERCHICK wrote: »Do you think people are going to want to buy or rent this property?
Why not? How would a prospective tenant even know?0 -

they would if the are locals..
without going into to much details, but a few years back there was a murder locally, which was very high profile, that house was rented out, and they could not sell it, or rent it....
even people from away who were interested in buying the house, were backing out once they were told about what happened..Work to live= not live to work0
