I wonder if the fire-exists in question were the type that need glass smashed to use? You know the ones I'm talking about?
If we're just referring to a fire-drill and not a genuine, lives at stake evacuation then perhaps the store in question didn't want the glass smashed and replaced unless necessary?
Not condoning it as such, just making a suggestion...:cool:0 -
I did mail their customer services and I've just dug out their response...Hello XXXXXXX
I have received a response from Kevin Turnbull, the Admin Manager at our Fareham store about the experience you had while shopping at our store.
Kevin has assured me that no fire exits are ever locked in this store.
All colleagues were re briefed in November in line with the company reissuing the Fire evacuation policy through the Trading Law site.
Kevin is however going to re brief the store teams this week, in the light of your experience.
Thank you again for contacting us about this and I hope that we can welcome you into our store again soon.
If I can be of any further help, please do not hesitate to contact me.
Whether the exits were locked or not (who knows? - there were doors to a staircase which weren't locked - we were told the doors at the bottom were locked but no one was allowed down so we couldn't tell) we were still prevented from using them. Seeing as I wasn't bothered about vouchers for their poxy out of date pies I just left it at that! Hopefully they'll have a word with the staff and have another fire drill practice."Growth for growth's sake is the ideology of the cancer cell" - Edward Abbey.0 -

They were normal doors with the standard green fire exits signs over the top that led to a staircase with another set of doors at the bottom. It's these bottom doors that were locked. Or so we were told."Growth for growth's sake is the ideology of the cancer cell" - Edward Abbey.0 -

More likely that the fire exits in question didn't have theft-prevention measures in place so the store didn't want customers running off with the merchandise so just herded everyone out through the main doors instead!:cool:0 -

In that case whoever is responsible for the fire drill should use the key to remove the glass tubes prior to the fire drill and replace them after it, because that is what I had to do when I worked in a public building with that system and we were told to that is how do it by the fire prevention officer from the local brigade. The truth may be out there, but the lies are inside your head. I'd hazard a guess that they weren't locked since a firm like Asda would probably have pretty stringent policies in place governing matters like that given the consqeuences.

I completely agree! I very much doubt they were locked - I just think there was a very dozy employee talking a load of old rubbish. Still - it's a failure of training at the very least."Growth for growth's sake is the ideology of the cancer cell" - Edward Abbey.0 -

That would help although in this particular incidence it wasn't a drill I don't think. There was some talk of a false alarm - there was work being done somewhere and I think the sensors were triggered."Growth for growth's sake is the ideology of the cancer cell" - Edward Abbey.0 -
Getting back to the original post, I would definitely have made a claim for a new pair of shoes. I certainly wouldn't have wanted to carry on wearing them after having bleach spilt on them. :mad:Striving to clear the mortgage before it finishes in Dec 2028 - amount currently owed - £24,616.090

I really can't be bothered to make a claim and I doubt I have the receipts anywhere to prove it if I did, they were only old clothes anyway so it's not a huge issue I was just really annoyed that the customer service in such a household name store is so bad! I knew customer service in general was on the decline but you still expect recognisable brands to still be able to keep their customers happy.
The pies were definatly use by date though, I checked thoroughly. They were in a printed pack as you would expect to get on the shelf but for some reason they keep them behind the glass counter."
