Hey guys,
today I just got in the post an application form for the Barclaycard Initial! I haven't requested it and they just sent it, with letter and a pre-contract.
now, I'm wondering, is it worth it give it a shot and try applying for it? as to be honest I wanted to, but I didn't as I thought i had few chances to get it! or would I be rejected anyways?

in the meanwhile I have applied for a vanquis as I thought it was the easiest way, and they approved me with no problems! I got the card like a week ago and put the application in 4 weeks ago!

as I said in previous post, I have a quite good relationship with barclays, I have a current account plus (I put in around 1800-2200 pounds a month), an ISA (with 2 grands in), a monthly saving, and a e-savings with 900 pounds in it and oh, my old cash card account where my wages go and then transfer it to my current account.

Do you think I should try it? or maybe wait few months? is it a good thing that they sent me that application thru the post?

    Why no just apply online?

You can try their "pre approval" checker here at no risk to your credit history.

    lol, yeah I might do!
I was just wondering if they send out letters to their customers like randomly, or if it's a sort of pre-selected thing! lol

the computer keep saying no, but as I said, I believe my internal score is quite good and if it was looked and decided properly by human decision, I'd say they wouldn't refuse me

random, your online banking with barclays will show if you are been offered one
Don't put your trust into an Experian score - it is not a number any bank will ever use & it is generally a waste of money to purchase it. They are also selling you insurance you dont need.
  • I'll avoid to apply for now then if it's been sent randomly without like at least having a sort of pre-offer or been consulting my situation! :)
  • Barclays do send things like that out if your eligible. Go into your local branch as they would have a better idea and can see your accounts etc. If you don't want things sent you can ask for them not to be, but i did the 'soft search' of my credit file on the website when I applied as it tells you which card you may be accepted for.
  • I'll go to my local branch and ask them! It's not like I don't want them to be sent haha I just got excited as I wanted a barclaycard at first as I have bank accounts and savings account with them and I like them! that's all! :)
  • I think most lenders send these things out of your likely to be accepted. Since I have been in debt no lender apart from Vanquis have sent me a application form. Vanquis I am sure did once about 2 years ago. While my parents who are not in debt seem to get a random mailing once every 9-12 months.

Normally when you get mailings such as yours OP you have already been pre assessed and the bank believe you have a high chance of exceptance. Your fate may just lie on the hands of the CRAs.

    what's a CRAs?
btw I believe too that they would process those kind of mails only if they think you have high chances of getting accepted. as I said, they didn't send me like a classic or platinum application but just an initial! so they surely figured out that it might be the only one suitable for me atm!
I'll go tomorrow and ask, I might just as well give it a try and if they decline me, then amen! never tried to apply for barclaycard before so I might as well give it one go with the thing they sent me!

Marketing are usually very careful not to send anything out to encourage you to apply if you're likely to be declined. It doesn't look great for the lender and if you're declined it means you're less likely to apply for one of their cards in the future.

Sounds like you've been pre-selected with a high chance of approval - but i agree with the first comment - just use the tool! it just told me i had a 70-80% chance of being approved for a card
