Does anyone know if 10 year period is the same for Gas meters?
Ever since moving into this house I'v complained about the huge gas and electricity bills. Currenly I pay £170 a month for gas and £125 for elec. The house is a 4 be victorian semi with a 4 year old combi boiler. I really do feel our bill are too high and a suggestion was made that maybe the gas meter isn't calibrated properly?
How can I check if the meter is old enough to be changed or even request that it is without being charged?
    Thankyou:beer:
Ask you supplier if they would do a like for like recertification job.
    aka, new mtr.

    HELLLLLPPPP!!!!!!!!
I don't know if I'm posting in the right place here sorry if not.
I have had no Gas supply since Saturday. I am on a top up card meter with scottish power.
I topped it up on Wednesday then tried to top up again on Saturday and it won't take it. The meter says OFF and just won't top up.
I haven't had the emergency gas to use either ( I didn't need it, but thought I would try since it wouldn't take the top up) it won't give me it. I have tried calling and can't get anyone to talk to about it. A recorded message told me to call the national grid number 0845 606 6766 They told me it was only for gas leaks etc, although the options menu says if you're supply has been cut off press..the number.

I have tried everything and my windows are iced up now. To make matters worse there has been a bereavement in the family and the funeral is 1st thing Wednesday morning. Can anyone suggest anything??????? Please.

    Thanks Dogshome
SCOTTISH POWER is still closed for holidays. I've tried since 8.10 am this morning. Busy lines try later cut off!
I can't believe there is no one you can contact at a time like this.

Are there any other messages on the meter or just off?
Does a message appear when the card goes in?

If it is just off you should be able to turn it back on - iirc card in press and hold red A button. Newer meter need you to release at the right time, instructions on the screen.

If you have another message, try calling sp but not pressing any buttons - some companies have an emergency team who answer if you wait.

Sorry to be vague, but I work for a competitor.

    Try a local florist.

Usually a lot cheaper than Interflora and better quality wreaths too :)

When I insert the card it comes up with the 2nd last amount that was on the card instead of the last amount that was put on it. Then it just says £15.00 on card 00.00 for gas.

The last amount put on was £10.00 but that isn't even coming up, and as I said before it won't even let me use emergency or anything. it's as if it's jammed on the 2nd last lot of card information that went in.

I've pressed the red button I don't know how many times but it won't do anything except bring up the 2nd last amount that went in, it does this even without the card being in. Just need to freeze. Thanks.
  • Hi, sorry to bump this but...

A while ago my Meter was vandalised and part of it (the master fuse) was taken out.

I've been on the phone to Scottish power who gave me a dosen different numbers to phone whenever I phoned those numbers they told me to contact Scottish power on their customer service line.

long story short I was eventually told that I need to contact an electrician however I thought electricians weren't allowed to touch the meter unless they were from SP?

If you have any advise then I'd be much obliged.

I'm a little confused by your posting.
You say this happened some time ago? You say they took the master fuse?
No master fuse means you have no electricity.

Also a strange thing to take - not worth much to anyone. Sure it wasn't officially discconnected? It's a part they would take when disconnecting.

Anyway, you need to contact your supplier. Do you have a supplier? (because if the've taken the master fuse, no one is actually supplying you anything). They will arrange for an engineer to attend.

If you actually mean the consumer board was removed (could be next to the meter if the meter is indoors) then that's your issue and you'll need to contact an electrician to repair/replace.

Just in case anyone ever needs a NEW meter installing by EDF. Don't ring the usual customer service number as they haven't got a clue. You will be kept on hold forever (literally was on hold 2 hours then cut off). You need to ring this number 0800 068 8257. As a bonus they answer quickly (literally 30 seconds) and appear to be of average intelligence and able to answer questions in English. Unlike the customer service people that are given a script for every eventuality are brain dead and based outside the UK.
