"Under the terms of the Electricity Act(What's that all about???) all meters have to be exchanged after they have been in use for a set period of time"

I bought the house new 9 years ago so its hardly an old meter, just interested to hear if anyone else has had such a letter of ever heard of the Electricity Act!!

    Thanks very much

Most digital meters are only certified for the 10 yr period, far less than the old mechanical ones were allowed. That you have been lettered and before the ten years is fantastic tbh, as long as your not paying be grateful its being maintained properly. :)
Please support my thanks button if I have been of any help

Thanks for the replies Guys, just never heard of this as my mum has had the same meter for over 20 years and also nobody else in my road (all houses the same age-9 years) has had the same letter.
I take the advice that it is better to get it done, so have rung Siemens and arranged the appointment, as you say, all except the fridge/freezer need to be off:rolleyes:

    Thanks again!!

Are you on Economy 10 or one of the comfort tarrifs?

If you have 2 supply numbers (MPAN numbers) you can't switch through the normal route.

    MP
 I have a poll / discussion on Economy 7 / 10 off-peak usage (as a % or total) and ways to improve it but I'm not allowed to link to it so have a look on the gas/elec forum if you would like to vote or discuss.
  • Well, the meter they're cheesed off about is the one for the embedded underfloor heating circuit.......

...... it's not Economy 7 but it IS a cheaper tarrif.......
  • Anybody know which Leccy Utility companies WILL support the transfer of two electricity meters ?
  • most should you just need to give them the 2 numbers off both meters british gas definately do it.

your gas meter box is your responsibility you can get them from a plum center.

do not phone your gas supplier its not their job to arrange or replace it reguardless.

meter boxes are usually the responsibility of the home owner :(

replacements can be bought from most large DIY stores - may be cheaper than paying Transco the £60!!!

some elec suppliers will repair the elec boxes for you free of charge, but for some reason they dont do the same for gas meter cabinets.
(prob something to do with weather/damp conditions being dangerous with an elec meter but not so with gas?)

Re above, Sorry to be the bearer of bad news - its the responsilbility of the home owner to replace any external meter boxes.

You can normally get them very cheap from like B+Q, Homebase, Focus etc. :(

You are responsible for the cost of fixing it speak to the gas transporter for your area be it NATIONAL GRID not transco which no longer exists and has not done so for around 5 yrs or other 0870 903 9999 for domestic connections if ng area.
I am responsible me, myself and I alone I am not the keeper others thoughts and words.

Does anyone know if 10 year period is the same for Gas meters?
Ever since moving into this house I'v complained about the huge gas and electricity bills. Currenly I pay £170 a month for gas and £125 for elec. The house is a 4 be victorian semi with a 4 year old combi boiler. I really do feel our bill are too high and a suggestion was made that maybe the gas meter isn't calibrated properly?
How can I check if the meter is old enough to be changed or even request that it is without being charged?
    Thankyou:beer:
